The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is issuing a Disruption Opportunity (DO) Special Notice (SN) inviting submissions of innovative basic or applied Research concepts in the technical domain of understanding group biases. This DO SN is issued under the Program Announcement for Disruptioneering, DARPA-PA-18-01. All proposals in response to the technical area(s) described herein will be submitted to DARPA-PA-18-01 and if selected, will result in an award of an Other Transaction (OT) for prototype project not to exceed $1,000,000.

The Course Hero-Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching will support rising stars in the academy who love teaching, demonstrate excellence as educators, and are making their mark as exceptional researchers, poised to shape their fields. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

The National Science Foundation announces an opportunity for methodological training by cultural anthropologists who are active researchers. The purpose is to help cultural anthropologists upgrade their methodological skills by learning a specific analytical technique which will improve their research abilities.

This project will develop an Ethnographic Overview and Assessment (EOA) baseline cultural anthropological study which aims to document traditional associations between distinct cultural communities and landscapes, places or resources. In partnering with traditionally associated tribes and distinct cultural communities, this project will identify and provide descriptions of resources and sites of cultural importance within Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, from the perspective of the associated groups themselves. A key goal of this project will be to provide baseline ethnographic documentation in a manner that is accessible to park staff and visitors, researchers and managers, interpreters and educators. To date, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument has never conducted an EOA. Ethnographic research is essential to preserve, manage and interpret Florissant Fossil Beds National Monumentâ¿¿s cultural and natural resources in an effective, culturally informed manner. This project will identify and document culturally significant resources and contribute to the development and implementation of culturally appropriate resource management strategies at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument.

This project will complete an ethnographic overview and assessment. This will include (1) a summary of ethnographic research relating to CAGR, (2) an inventory of known ethnographic resources within CAGR, (3) recommendations for the management and interpretation of ethnographic resources in CAGR, (4) suggestions for future ethnographic research within CAGR.

The English Speaking Union of the United States each year sponsors a travel grant for study or research providing a stipend of up to $2,000. This competition is open to qualified under-graduate and post-graduate students, faculty, and others involved in academic pursuits that are in accord with the goal of the English Speaking Union of promoting education and understanding among the English speaking peoples of the world. The grant is designed to assist worthy individuals who are active in the fields of Business, the Humanities, Science and Engineering, Liberal, Fine or Applied Arts and who wish to study or conduct research either in the United States or in one of the countries of the British Commonwealth.

The Albert Einstein Fellowship supports creative, interdisciplinary thought by giving young scholars the chance to pursue research outside their previous area of work. Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. Applications for 2019 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation. All documents must be received by April 15, 2018. At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Daimler and Benz Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun. A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR DISSERTATION research. THE PROPOSED PROJECT MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, AND PREFERABLY FIELD AND FORM, FROM THE APPLICANT'S PREVIOUS WORK.

The Council for European Studies is this year holding its 50th Anniversary meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland from the 22nd to the 24th of June 2020. The CES membership has traditionally been primarily centered around the Global North. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Council for European Studies (CES) and the World Society Foundation (WSF) are committed to engaging participants from traditionally underrepresented  communities by awarding a limited number of travel grants covering airfare and accommodation to researchers from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The year 2020 marks a moment for reflection, given recent and ongoing changes in the boundaries of European citizenship, the fragile institutional arrangements of the European social model, the postcolonial analysis of Europe in the world, the population dynamics that define who is European, Europe's changing relationships with other regions and parts of world society, including the Global South, and the configuration of global hegemony. 

The American Center for Mongolian Studies (ACMS), with funding support from the US State Department Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, seeks applicants for a short-term directed fellowship in Textile Conservation to take place in Mongolia between August and December, 2020. The fellow will work with ACMS on a joint US-Mongolia textile conservation project sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar's U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) grant titled, "Conserving and Preserving Mongolia's Endangered Textile Traditions and Collections." The program will provide $4,000 to support the selected fellow's participation in the project, which will primarily take place at the National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar. The fellow will have the opportunity for in-depth examination and treatment of fabrics and textiles, costumes, and accessories representing Eurasian steppe cultures roughly spanning 2,000 years. Fabrics and textiles deriving from animal sources (silk, fur, wool, skin) feature prominently in combination with various other mediums. Most work will take place at the National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar. The fellow will work under the direction of a lead textile conservator, and in collaboration with a Mongolian fellow and cultural heritage/museum professionals with varying language proficiency. The fellow will conduct Research and take part in all aspects of piloting and implementing a nationwide program aimed at advancing the professional development of textile conservation competencies in: Conservation examination and documentation methodologies, Improvement of atypical storage environments, Exhibition mounting and display, Archaeological textile salvage and stabilization, and Treatments including humidification, removal of previous repairs, cleaning, drying of wet/damp material, consolidation and stabilization of losses and tears, and compensation for loss.

There are no limitations on the disciplinary background of the principal investigator, and the proposed research may address any topic in behavioral economics. However, projects must contribute to the Foundation's mission to improve the social and living conditions in the U.S. Appropriate projects will demonstrate explicit use of psychological concepts in the motivation of the research design and the preparation of the results.

To that end, the foundation is currently accepting applications for its Conference and Workshop Grants program. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation is not accepting applications for Conference or Workshop Grants involving face-to-face activities, but it is accepting applications to cover the costs involved in hosting virtual workshops. To that end, grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded in support of virtual events that foster the creation of an international community of research scholars in anthropology and advance significant and innovative anthropological research. A workshop is defined as a working meeting in which topical issues in theoretical anthropology are developed and debated by small groups of scholars who meet for a sufficient period of time to deal intensively with the topic. Priority will be given to workshops that devote the majority of time to discussion and debate rather than to the presentation of papers. It is expected that workshops will result in a publication.

Each year, approximately 25 scholars are selected as Members in the School of Social Science. A completed doctorate or equivalent is required by the application deadline. Memberships are awarded at both the junior and senior levels. They are for the full academic year only unless the scholar is from a country with an academic calendar that is substantially different than the one in the U.S., in which case single-term Memberships will be considered. Scholars may be considered for a second residency if a sufficient amount of time has passed since their initial Membership. Members are expected only to pursue their own research and participate in the seminars. The theme for 2021-22 is "Political Mobilizations and Social Movements," but applications outside the theme are also welcomed. An interdisciplinary dialogue will be fostered and applications are strongly encouraged from scholars across the social sciences, whether or not their research corresponds to the theme.

The OFRN Round 5 Opportunity Announcement is focused on expanding Ohio's research and development capabilities across the state's academic institutions and business in support of Ohio-based federal partner needs, which ultimately promotes Ohio's economic growth. The RISA program supports the development of knowledge, expertise, and abilities of decision-makers to plan and prepare for climate variability and change. Through regionally-focused and interdisciplinary research and engagement teams, RISA builds and expands the Nation's capacity to adapt and become resilient to extreme weather events and climate change. RISA teams accomplish this through co-developed applied research and partnerships with public and private communities. A central tenet of the RISA program is that learning about climate adaptation and resilience is facilitated by and sustained across a wide range of experts, practitioners, and the public. As such, the RISA program supports a network of people, prioritizing wide participation in learning by doing, learning through adapting, and managing risk with uncertain information. Early decades of the program focused on understanding the use of climate information at regional scales (e.g., through experimental seasonal outlooks), improving predictions and scenarios, building capacity for drought early warning, and advancing the science of climate impact assessments. More recently, emphasis has shifted to address the growing urgency to advance approaches that tackle the complex societal issues surrounding adaptation planning, implementation, and building community resilience. To do so, RISA continues to prioritize collaborative approaches that incorporate multiple knowledge sources and integrate social, physical, and natural science, resulting in long-term support of and increased capacity for communities.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications to study the ethical, legal and societal issues (ELSI) of human genome research in African populations.  Of particular interest are projects that propose focused bioethical, legal, and social science analyses of new or emerging issues.

Awards received beginning in September and all proposal submissions going forward will be required to use the new rates.

The recipient will work cooperatively with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to provide a Research Associate who will assist with the implementation of a cultural resource program at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex, following FWS recommendations.

This project provides a museum-focused educational work experience opportunity for anthropology, archeology, and/or museum studies students which will complement classroom instruction. The students will acquire and apply diverse skills related to best practices in preventive care, accountability and general collections management as they perform object cataloging, labeling, photographing, rehousing, and storing National Park Service (NPS) collections housed at the Western Archeological and Conservation Center (WACC), a large NPS repository. Students will work with a variety of objects which will expose them to material culture from the Southwest through multiple periods of history and prehistory. They also will acquire skills in researching archeological field records and other archival materials in order to identify accurate provenience and association with other objects. The additional training and practical work experience this project provides will enhance the studentsâ¿¿ employability in the public or private sector.

Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Eligible projects usually result in articles, monographs, books, digital materials and publications, archaeological site reports, translations, or editions. Projects must not result solely in the collection of data; instead they must also incorporate analysis and interpretation. Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months. Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development.

On a biennial basis (every odd year) the SMA Dissertation Award is given to the author of a dissertation which is judged to be a significant and potentially influential contribution to medical anthropology. Dissertations are judged on the basis of: (1) scope and excellence of scholarship, including ethnographic research; (2) originality of subject matter; (3) effectiveness and persuasiveness of arguments; and (4) writing quality.
