    The Physical Anthropology Program supports basic research in areas related to human evolution and contemporary human biological variation. Research areas supported by the program include, but are not limited to, human genetic variation, human adaptation, human osteology and bone biology, human and nonhuman primate paleontology, functional anatomy, and primate socioecology. Grants supported in these areas are united by an underlying evolutionary framework, and often a consideration of adaptation as a central theoretical theme. Many proposals also have a biocultural orientation. The program frequently serves as a bridge within NSF between the social and behavioral sciences and the natural and physical sciences, and proposals are commonly jointly reviewed and funded with other programs.For more information about the Crosscutting Research and Training Opportunities, please visit the Cross-Directorate Activities webpage. To implement that policy in ways appropriate to Physical Anthropology and Archaeology, beginning July 1, 2005 these Programs will require that all proposals include a one-page detailed description of the applicant's data access plan in the "Supplementary Documents" section. This page will be in addition to the standard 15-page project description. Applications lacking this statement will not be reviewed. The Programs realize that individual cases may differ widely and recognize that any absolute timeline or rigid set of rule

African American Civil Rights (AACR) History Grants - 0 views

    The National Park Service's (NPS) FY 2017 African American Civil Rights Grant Program (AACR) will document, interpret, and preserve the sites related to the African American struggle to gain equal rights as citizens in the 20th Century. The NPS 2008 report, "Civil Rights in America, A Framework for Identifying Significant Sites," will serve as the reference document in determining the appropriateness of proposed projects and properties. AACR Grants are funded by the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), administered by the NPS. Grants will fund a broad range of planning and research projects for historic sites including: survey, inventory, documentation, interpretation, and education. Grants are awarded through a competitive process and do not require non-Federal match.***There are separate funding announcements for physical preservation projects and for historical research/documentation projects. BLM-(MT), Traditional Properties and Sacred Site Identification - 0 views

    Background: Native American Tribes have specific cultural and religious ties to the land and landscapes. In Montana and North and South Dakota that means that much of the physical environment has meaning and significance to tribes. BLM manages and authorizes activities on this landscape. To understand the tribal specific ties to the land it is important to understand the significance of the landscape to tribes including where Sacred sites and Traditional Cultural Properties (TCPs) are located. The proposed program in the Spring Creek area will address this need and will provide a mechanism to rediscover sites of religious and cultural importance to tribes. Objectives: Facilitate Identification of TCPs and Sacred Sites important to the tribes. The recipient will conduct field work and record historic properties to assist with special expertise to help recognize and evaluate eligibility of sites, especially TCPs or Sacred sites for areas in their Aboriginal Territories beginning with the Spring Creek area which will be 1350 acres. The information will be invaluable to determine significance of sites and for tribes to re-establish connections to places they have heard about in their oral tradition. This information also contributes to our knowledge of our National Heritage. The information will provide background and holistic use information for future management of public lands. Public Benefit: These potential TCPs and Sacred sites are important because they give us a more complete picture of our National Heritage. The project will benefit the general public, by giving the tribes the chance to share important cultural information to assist in better management of important sites and areas on the landscape and a contribution to our National Heritage. These sites are irreplaceable.

    The RISA program supports the development of knowledge, expertise, and abilities of decision-makers to plan and prepare for climate variability and change. Through regionally-focused and interdisciplinary research and engagement teams, RISA builds and expands the Nation's capacity to adapt and become resilient to extreme weather events and climate change. RISA teams accomplish this through co-developed applied research and partnerships with public and private communities. A central tenet of the RISA program is that learning about climate adaptation and resilience is facilitated by and sustained across a wide range of experts, practitioners, and the public. As such, the RISA program supports a network of people, prioritizing wide participation in learning by doing, learning through adapting, and managing risk with uncertain information. Early decades of the program focused on understanding the use of climate information at regional scales (e.g., through experimental seasonal outlooks), improving predictions and scenarios, building capacity for drought early warning, and advancing the science of climate impact assessments. More recently, emphasis has shifted to address the growing urgency to advance approaches that tackle the complex societal issues surrounding adaptation planning, implementation, and building community resilience. To do so, RISA continues to prioritize collaborative approaches that incorporate multiple knowledge sources and integrate social, physical, and natural science, resulting in long-term support of and increased capacity for communities.

NSF revised proposal due date listing - 0 views

    The following programs have due dates that fall between October 1 - 25, 2013, and these dates are being revised due to the Federal  government shutdown. These revised dates apply whether the proposal is being submitted via the NSF FastLane System or  Grants.gov. Due to compressed proposal deadlines resulting from the shutdown, proposers are advised that they may experience a  delay when contacting IT Help Central with technical support questions.
