The program provides support to nonprofits interested in making long-term improvements in their management, governance, and/or organizational capacity. Grants may be used for capacity-building activities that include but are not limited to strategic planning; financial management, including cash flow, budget development, and financial controls; program evaluation planning; communications and marketing, including website development, public relations, and the use of social media; resource development and fundraising; human resources, including professional development, succession planning, staffing structure, assessment, and retention; information systems management, including technology enhancements; board development, including assessment, recruitment, training, and structuring; and restructuring and relationship building with other nonprofit organizations aimed at strengthening service delivery, reducing costs, and sharing resources.

The purpose of the ADI-SSS program is to provide grants to public and private entities that are operating within existing, dementia-capable, long term services and supports systems and are committed to serving populations with the most need and living with or at risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia and their caregivers. Successful applicants will propose services designed to address the needs of each of the three service gap areas identified in the Funding Opportunity Announcement. The grantees benefit from targeted technical assistance provided by the ACL's National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center.

This FOA invites applications that will systematically and comprehensively characterize alpha-synuclein and amyloid-beta subspecies present in human Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) post-mortem brain tissue, identify toxic subspecies and potential mechanisms of toxicity, and characterize any interactions between the proteins that may contribute to increased toxicity and/or explain selective vulnerabilities of cells/circuits. Applications are required to include at least 3 hypothesis-driven projects that address these goals, an administrative core, and other cores as appropriate. Applicants will be expected to focus on the use of human tissues. All applications will be expected to include plans for developing a publicly-available library of fully characterized alpha-synuclein and amyloid-beta subspecies found in LBD.

This FOA invites applications that propose to support advanced-stage development and utilization of novel research infrastructure to advance the science of aging in specific areas requiring interdisciplinary partnerships or collaborations. This FOA will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental Grants Phase II mechanism to provide support for expanded activities. Applicants are expected to have an existing research infrastructure developed either through PA-12-064, or with other NIH or non-NIH support. Through this award, investigators will develop a mature and sustainable research infrastructure to support projects that address key interdisciplinary aging research questions.

This FOA invites applications that propose to develop novel research infrastructure that will advance the science of aging in specific areas requiring interdisciplinary partnerships or collaborations. This FOA will use the NIH Phased Innovation Award (R21/R33) mechanism to provide up to 2 years of R21 support for initial developmental activities, and up to 3 years of R33 support for expanded activities. Through this award, investigators will develop a sustainable research infrastructure to support projects that address key interdisciplinary aging research questions.

This RFA invites applications for planning awards to develop and finalize protocols for well-powered cognitive training intervention trials to remediate or prevent age-related cognitive decline as well as possibly prevent or delay the onset of mild cognitive impairment and dementia. Planning activities may include the collection of pilot data and the refinement of cognitive training protocols consistent with Stage I of the NIH Stage Model. Trial designs must justify the means used to assess cognition and to explore the underlying mechanisms of change. Such methods as structural and functional neuroimaging with biomarkers justified by an underlying model of change, CSF fluids, and blood biomarkers are appropriate candidate tools.

The purpose of the FOA is to support the large scale molecular platform analysis of brain tissue, human biofluid or human induced pluripotent stem cell resources for the identification of targets and pathways associated with Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementias (ADRDs) pathophysiology.

The mission of the Administration for Community Living (ACL) Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program is to empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse. Through outreach, counseling, and education, the SMP program increases awareness and understanding of health care programs to protect Medicare beneficiaries from the economic and health-related consequences associated with Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. ACL currently provides grant funding to support 53 SMP projects, including grantees in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. The SMP projects use this funding to provide local outreach, education, and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries through a trained volunteer workforce. SMP projects teach Medicare beneficiaries to protect their Medicare numbers, to detect billing discrepancies on their quarterly Medicare Summary Notice statements, and to report suspicious activity for further investigation. In addition, SMP projects actively disseminate fraud prevention and identification information through the media, outreach campaigns, and community events.

The goal of the Pension Counseling & Information Program is to help individuals understand and exercise their pension rights The regional counseling projects promote protection of the rights, financial security, and independence of older individuals and empower them to make informed choices for a secure retirement. Successful applicants will demonstrate a proven record of advising and representing individuals who have been denied employer or union-sponsored pensions or other retirement savings plan benefits, and will have the capacity to deliver services on a regional basis.

The objectives of this new funding opportunity is to provide financial assistance to the territories of American Samoa and Guam to provide, expand and improve the provision of independent living services in each respective territory. Centers for Independent Living (CILs) provide services to assist individuals with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential within their families and communities. CILs are consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability, non-residential, private nonprofit agencies. Required core services include:•Information and referrals; •Independent living skills training; •Peer counseling;•Individual and systems advocacy; and •Services that facilitate from nursing homes and other institutions to the community, assistance to individuals at risk of entering institutions, and transition of youth to postsecondary life. The problem that will be addressed is that there is currently no center for independent living (CIL) funded in American Samoa or Guam. The target population is individuals with disabilities. The CIL shall use the funds to provide services to individuals with a range of significant disabilities. The CIL shall (1) facilitate the development and achievement of independent living goals; (2) work to increase the availability and improve the quality of community options for independent living; (3) provide independent living services; (4) conduct activities to increase the capacity of communities within the service area of the CIL to meet the needs of individuals with significant disabilities; and (5) conduct resource development activities to obtain other funding.

Approaches that partner technology-based solutions with biomedical and biobehavioral research are supported by multiple agencies of the federal government including the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The purpose of this program is to develop next-generation multidisciplinary science that encourages existing and new research communities to focus on breakthrough ideas in a variety of areas of value to health, such as networking, pervasive computing, advanced analytics, sensor integration, privacy and security, modeling of socio-behavioral and cognitive processes and system and process modeling. Effective solutions must satisfy a multitude of constraints arising from clinical/medical needs, barriers to change, heterogeneity of data, semantic mismatch and limitations of current cyberphysical systems and an aging population.Such solutions demand multidisciplinary teams ready to address issues ranging from fundamental science and engineering to medical and public health practice.

The Retirement Research Foundation is accepting proposals from nonprofit organizations for local and national projects designed to improve the quality of life for older Americans. Grants will be awarded in support of projects that provide direct services, advocacy, education, and training programs for professionals working with elders, as well as for research that investigates causes and solutions to significant problems of older adults. Projects with a local focus will be considered from organizations in seven states only: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Florida. However, advocacy, training, and research projects of national relevance are considered from organizations located anywhere in the United States. To be eligible, organizations must be considered tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Since 1998, ADDF has provided more than $29 million in funding for early stage clinical drug trials for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. To help propel novel drugs into the clinic, ADDF also has provided over $6.5 million in support of final preclinical studies required by regulatory agencies for the initiation of clinical research studies. The goal of the foundation's PACT program is to increase the number of innovative treatments tested in humans for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. To that end, the program will fund clinical trials through Phase 2a of novel drug candidates, including small molecules and biologics (antibodies, oligonucleotides, peptides, gene therapies, cell therapies); proof-of-concept biomarker-based trials in patients for repurposed/repositioned drugs; and regulatory studies for investigational new drug (IND)/clinical trial application preclinical packages that are required before testing novel drugs in human subjects. Proposed molecular targets will be evaluated based on the strength of available evidence linking the target to the disease and demonstrating that modulating its biological activity will improve symptoms or modify disease progression. Current target areas of interest include but are not limited to neuroprotection, inflammation, vascular function, mitochondria and metabolic function, proteostasis, ApoE, epigenetics, and synaptic activity and neurotransmitters.

The Administration on Aging (AoA) within the Administration for Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) forecasts the possible availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 funds to make three-year grants to approximately 10 entities to develop capacity, bring to scale, and sustain evidence-based programs that empower older adults and adults with disabilities to better manage their chronic conditions. ACL intends to compete these 10 grants via two options (both with 36-month grant periods): (A) Sustainable Systems Grants: approximately six grants of $500,000 to $900,000 focused on developing integrated, sustainable systems for delivering evidence-based chronic disease self-management education and self-management support programs. (B) Capacity-Building Grants: approximately four grants of $50,000 to $150,000 to build capacity to introduce and deliver evidence-based chronic disease self-management education and self-management support programs within underserved areas and/or populations.

ACL aims to compete these 10 grants via two options (both with 36-month grant periods): (A) Sustainable Systems Grants: approximately six grants of $400,000 to $600,00 focused on developing integrated, sustainable systems for delivering falls prevention programs; (B) Capacity-Building Grants: approximately four grants of $50,000 to $150,000 to build capacity to introduce and deliver falls prevention programs within underserved areas and/or populations.

The Course Hero-Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching will support rising stars in the academy who love teaching, demonstrate excellence as educators, and are making their mark as exceptional researchers, poised to shape their fields. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

CADS invites research proposals from Tenure/Tenure Track Faculty members for its 2018 Research Fellowships. The fellowships provide support for Miami's faculty on projects broadly related to the area of analytics and data science. CADS will fund one proposal up to $25,000 for one year in duration. Topics should address problems, challenges, or questions that emerge in response to larger, more diverse, higher volume data. Multidisciplinary proposals featuring researchers from different academic divisions are strongly encouraged, with a minimum expectation of researchers representing different academic departments. Proposals comprised only of researchers from within a single academic department will not be considered.

The purpose of the FOA is to support the structural characterization of protein species associated with Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementias (ADRDs) through the utilization of cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) of proteins expressed in human tissue and cell sources. Studies in response to this RFA should also include the development of research tools and resources to further characterize/validate the protein species.

The Administration on Aging (AoA) will hold a competition for a new cooperative agreement to continue operation of the National Eldercare Locator. The Eldercare Locator will be available to people in 56 states and territories to provide information and referrals nationwide. The Locator is a call center with live information specialists helping older adults and their caregivers link to the aging network of trustworthy national, State, Tribal and community-based organizations. This new program announcement seeks to advance the Locator to better serve current and future older adults and those who care for them.
