The Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF) is seeking grant applications that focus on studying arthritis and related autoimmune diseases including but not limited to: osteoarthritis; rheumatoid arthritis; juvenile arthritis; lupus; psoriatic arthritis; gout; scleroderma; fibromyalgia; ankylosing spondylitis.

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) invites applications specific to infrastructure that will support storage and analysis of primary and secondary data for the genetics and genomics of Alzheimer's Disease.

The purpose of this research is to investigate models for linking community pharmacists (e.g., independent, chain, franchise, mail order, retail) to primary care providers to enhance medication review and management in older adults, and examine the potential health benefits of primary care-pharmacy linkages.

The goal of this FOA is to test whether or not the ages of laboratory animals is an important consideration in experimental outcomes in the study of disease pathology, degenerative condition, response to therapy, intervention or environmental exposure.

Through the annual program, the foundation will award a two-year grant of up to $180,000 over two years to non-Duke faculty for research with the potential to advance the knowledge or treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Priority will be given to pilot studies that can lead to more conventional funding.

The  Progeria Research Foundation is seeking proposals from principal researchers for projects related to Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS), a rare, fatal, "premature aging" disease that affects children.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is issued as an initiative of the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research.  The Neuroscience Blueprint is a collaborative framework through which 15 NIH Institutes, Centers and Offices jointly support neuroscience-related research, with the aim of accelerating discoveries and reducing the burden of nervous system disorders (for further information, see http://neuroscienceblueprint.nih.gov/).  The Neuroscience Blueprint is supporting a Lifespan Human Connectome Project (L-HCP) to extend the Human Connectome Project (HCP) (http://www.neuroscienceblueprint.nih.gov/connectome) to map connectivity in the developing, adult, and aging human brain.  The goal of this FOA is to solicit grant applications that propose to extend the experimental protocols developed through the HCP to children in the 0-5 year old age range to investigate the structural and functional changes that occur in the brain during typical development.  Related FOAs solicit applications that apply the HCP protocols to the 5-21 year old age range and to middle age and elderly adults to explore changes that occur during normal aging.

Increased longevity continues to become more prevalent in Native American communities. This trend has placed greater demands on service delivery systems, which are even more complex and fragmented than in non-Indian communities. In recognition of this, under the Older Americans Act (OAA) Amendments of 2006, Congress mandated the support of at least two (2), and not more than four (4), Resource Centers that will focus on issues and concerns affecting individuals who are older Native Americans. The primary goal of these Centers is to enhance knowledge about older Native Americans and thereby to increase and improve the delivery of services to them. The National Resource Centers on Native American Elders (Centers) will concentrate on the development and provision of technical information and expertise and best practices to Indian tribal organizations, Native American communities, educational institutions including Tribal Colleges and Universities, and professionals and paraprofessionals in the field. Each Center must have a national focus and direct its resources to one or more of the areas of primary concern on which the center will focus which shall be; health issues, long-term care, including in-home care; elder abuse; and other problems and issues facing Native communities. Each Center is expected to incorporate the concepts and principles and cultural competencies into all aspects of their staffing, program, and activities. Additionally, each Center's activities will promote one or more of the AoA priority areas. These priority areas are; 1) make it easier for older people to access an integrated array of health and long-term care services, 2) help older people stay active and healthy, 3) support families in their efforts to care for their loved ones at home and in the community, 4) ensure the rights of older people and prevent their abuse, neglect and exploitation, 5) training and technical assistance, and 6) coordination within the university structure.
