The overall goal of this FOA is to support the development of a collaborative research and resource network to synergize the expertise, skills, and resources of investigators within the geriatric emergency medicine and Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD) research communities to identify and address research gaps towards optimizing recognition and emergency care of older adults with AD/ADRD. Support is provided for up to 2 years of planning/development (R61 phase) of a milestone-driven infrastructure including the initial identification of top-priority research gaps and the establishment of strategies to address them. Areas identified as needing additional evidence-based research include, but are not limited to, pre-emergency department (ED) strategies to avoid non-emergency ED visits, recognition of early cognitive impairment in the ED, strategies to optimize the ED environment and providers for patients with AD/ADRD, development of safe disposition criteria, and methods to minimize system fragmentation within and across health and social services.

The objective of the NIDCR Award for Sustaining Outstanding Achievement in Research (SOAR) is to provide longer-term support to NIDCR-funded investigators, who are in their mid-career stage, and have outstanding records of research productivity, mentorship and professional service to the research community. It is expected that the SOAR Award will propel the investigator along this career trajectory and allow him/her to embark on ambitious longer-term projects of extraordinary potential within the mission of NIDCR. This award supports research projects for up to eight years.

The NIA Behavioral and Social Research LEaders in Alzheimer's Disease and Its Related Dementias (NIA BSR LEADR) program supports individual scientists of exceptional creativity who propose to use behavioral and social science perspectives and approaches for highly innovative, impactful, and potentially transformative theoretical, empirical, and clinical research addressing the challenges raised by Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD) for individuals, their families, and society. Applications are welcome from individuals with diverse backgrounds. NIA encourages applications on a variety of AD/ADRD topics in which behavioral and social research can contribute, such as dementia care, dementia caregiver research, cognitive and dementia epidemiology, behavioral and social pathways of AD/ADRD, early psychological changes preceding AD/ADRD, prevention of AD/ADRD, and disparities in AD/ADRD or dementia-related outcomes.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the Fogarty International Center (FIC) seeks to stimulate innovative ideas and impactful research to better understand the complexities around developing appropriate approaches for effective diagnosis, prevention, therapeutic interventions and integrated clinical care for HIV-associated non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Specifically, this initiative will support research in the following areas: a) Basic sciences to address etiopathogenesis of NCDs in Persons Living with HIV (PLWH); b) Aging process in PLWH; c) Diagnostics tools for early detection of NCDs in PLWH; d) Therapeutic interventions to explore optimal drug regimens for PLWH with NCDs; e) Behavioral studies for better quality of life of PLWH with NCDs; and f) Clinical studies for better patient centered care for PLWH with NCDs. The R21 grant mechanism is intended to encourage exploratory/developmental research by providing support for the early and conceptual stages of project development and assessing feasibility of the proposed studies (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/r21.htm ). It is hoped that this preliminary research will lay the foundation for larger studies that can lead to applications to other organizations or NIH institutes that support HIV-associated NCD research.

Research shows that diverse teams working together and capitalizing on innovative ideas and distinct perspectives outperform homogenous teams. Scientists and trainees from diverse backgrounds and life experiences bring different perspectives, creativity, and individual enterprise to address complex scientific problems. This Small Research Grant (R03) will support important and innovative projects to provide needed scientific insight to improve the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and/or care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD). Specifically, this FOA will support archiving and leveraging existing data sets for analyses of projects covering a wide array of topics relating to AD/ADRD. The overall goal of this FOA is (i) to encourage the next generation of U.S. researchers to pursue research and academic careers in neuroscience, AD/ADRD, and healthy brain aging and (ii) to stimulate established researchers who are not currently doing AD/ADRD research to perform pilot studies developing new, innovative AD/ADRD research programs that leverage and build upon their existing expertise. The Retirement Research Foundation (RRF) recently approved a strategic plan that reaffirms our continuing commitment to improve the quality of life for older people. A centerpiece of our plan is the establishment of four priority areas in aging. Beginning in 2020, these four areas will be given higher priority within the Foundation's grantmaking program: Caregiving Economic Security in Later Life Housing Social and Intergenerational Connectedness Each priority area will afford RRF an opportunity to fund innovative and effective projects that support the ability of older people to live fully in community settings. While the priority areas reflect RRF's primary funding interests, we will remain open to considering compelling applications on other topics on a selective basis.

Recent studies show nearly half of older adults will experience social isolation, which is linked to a broad range of negative physical and psychological outcomes that can be life threatening. Due to geographic isolation, limited access to reliable transportation, and reduced family/social networks as young people move to urban areas for employment, the problem disproportionally impacts older adults in rural areas. By providing older adults with stimulating, meaningful, and enjoyable activities, technology can enhance their sense of connection to family, friends and community, add to their overall quality of life, and help them live independently in their communities of choice. However, technology on its own cannot eliminate social isolation completely and must be combined with increased community engagement, human connectivity, and opportunities for rural residents of all ages to work together to promote healthy aging.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits research projects that seek to model the underlying mechanisms, processes, and trajectories of social relationships and how these factors affect outcomes in health, illness, recovery, and overall wellbeing. Both animal and human subjects research projects are welcome. The Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications seeking to examine the outcomes of care for persons with Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease related dementias (AD/ADRD) through identifying home and community-based services (HCBS) used, as well as barriers to accessing these types of care, and unmet needs of persons with AD/ADRD concerning care and services.

This FOA allows for applications that propose large-scale, complex research projects with multiple highly integrated components focused on a common research question relevant to aging. Such projects will likely involve an integrated multidisciplinary team of investigators within a single institution or a consortium of institutions.

The goal of this FOA is to support short courses geared to behavioral and social scientists who have existing expertise in aging research and can make research contributions in Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD) with additional knowledge about the disease and related research resources. Fields of behavioral and social science research relevant for this FOA are health economics, labor economics, health services research, healthcare policy, public policy, demography, sociology, social epidemiology, psychology, and social neuroscience. Priority areas of focus include, but are not limited to, the following: dementia care; dementia caregiver research; cognitive and dementia epidemiology; behavioral and social pathways of AD/ADRD; role of social, contextual, environmental, and institutional factors in AD/ADRD; early psychological changes preceding AD/ADRD onset; prevention of AD/ADRD; disparities in AD/ADRD or dementia-related outcomes; and research resources and methods for studying the determinants and impact of AD/ADRD.

The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) is inviting applications to its Prevention Beyond the Pipeline program. Through the program, grants will be awarded in support of comparative effectiveness research, prevention clinical trials, and epidemiological studies that probe whether the use or choice of drugs alters the risk for dementia or cognitive decline. Funding priorities identified by the foundation include: Consortium of Cohorts for Alzheimer's Prevention Action (CAPA) - Epidemiological studies contribute unmatched information on whether the risk of dementia or cognitive decline may be influenced by long-term exposure to specific foods or supplements. However, high-powered studies are needed in order to translate epidemiological research into actionable interventions for testing. Through the CAPA Consortium, ADDF will support collaborative analyses on dementia prevention using a minimum of five longitudinal cohorts, either harmonized or analyzed through parallel analysis of cohorts using a shared analysis script.

The purpose of this program is to provide continued support to Transition Scholars who have successfully matriculated through the NIH Stimulating Access to Research in Residency (StARR) R38 program as resident investigators, and who demonstrate potential and continued interest in pursuing careers as clinician-investigators. Awards will provide 12-24 months of mentored research and career development support to those individuals who completed R38 research training, have secured a clinical fellowship or early-career faculty appointment (as instructor or assistant professor for less than 40 months at the time of submission or resubmission), and propose a strong research and career development plan towards continued, successful research careers.
