The Environment of Elder Care Nursing Research Grant co-sponsored by Hill-Rom will advance the science of nursing through research focused on critical aspects of elder care including clear lungs, no falls, safe skin, patient comfort and ease-of-use. Applications from novice researchers who have received no other national research funds are encouraged. Preference will be given to Sigma Theta Tau International members, other qualifications being equal.

Demonstration project grants will fund single HIAs to inform a specific proposed policy, program, plan, or project. The Health Impact Project will award up to six demonstration project grants for up to $100,000 each and. provide training and technical assistance to awardees throughout the length of each demonstration project grant. Applicants need not have prior HIA experience; preference will go to applicants proposing innovative topics for HIAs or proposing work in states and regions that have seen relatively little HIA activity to date. This includes U.S. territories and Alabama, Arkansas, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.  HIA program grants will support organizations with prior HIA experience to conduct one or more new HIAs and to implement a plan that establishes the relationships, systems, and funding mechanisms needed to maintain a stable HIA program beyond the conclusion of the grant period. The Health Impact Project will fund up to five program grants for up to $250,000 each.

NIJ is seeking proposals for research and evaluation related to the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elderly individuals. Research that includes residents of residential care facilities also will be considered. Research proposed may be focused at the state, local, tribal, federal, juvenile justice policy and/or practice level.

Projects concerned with understanding the basic mechanisms of aging that have direct relevance to human aging will be considered if they show the potential to lead to clinically-relevant strategies that address human aging and healthspan. Projects investigating age-related diseases are also supported, if approached from the point of view of how basic aging processes may lead to these outcomes. Projects concerning mechanisms underlying common geriatric functional disorders such as frailty will also be considered. Projects that are strictly clinical in nature such as the diagnosis and treatment of disease, health outcomes, or the social context of aging are not eligible.

The purpose of this FOA is to provide network and infrastructure support to foster development of novel interdisciplinary research approaches on aging research related to caloric restriction (CR) in humans. This FOA uses the Resource-Related Research Project activity code (R24) to support research networks that will advance interdisciplinary collaboration through activities such as meetings, conferences, data exchange, small scale pilots, short term training opportunities, visiting scholar programs and dissemination activities to encourage growth and development in the science related to CR in humans.

The Retirement Research Foundation funds research projects that have a regional or national impact on older Americans.  Of particular interest are projects that seek causes and solutions to significant problems facing older adults through support of applied and policy research for which federal funding is not available.

The year-long Health and Aging Policy Fellows program offers fellows the opportunity to participate in a residential track or a non-residential track. The residential track allows fellows to participate in the policymaking process on either the Federal or state level as legislative assistants in Congress, professional staff members in executive branch agencies or policy organizations. The non-residential track allows fellows to remain at their home institution but work on a policy project that involves brief placement(s) throughout the year at relevant sites. Core program components focused on career development and professional enrichment are provided for fellows in both tracks. Fellows also have the opportunity to apply for second-year funding to continue components of their fellowship experience/project either at their placement sites, at the state/local levels, or with non-governmental organizations. Our key partner in this effort is the American Political Science Association which has established the most respected and longest running policy fellowship program in Washington, DC.

CAREER: The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations. Such activities should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research. This FY 2014 grant announcement focuses on national programs strategically targeted to address community and law enforcement needs. Specifically, this grant announcement focuses on developing community partnerships to assist law enforcement in locating and working with missing persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. This initiative is funded under the Missing Alzheimer's Disease Patient Assistance Program.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits R01 grant applications from applicant organizations that propose to develop and implement interventions to remediate age-related cognitive decline. A crucial feature of these applications will be the embedding of the testing of the proposed intervention into a measurement framework that will: 1) help elucidate its mechanism of action; 2) identify specific individuals who are more likely or less likely to benefit from the intervention, and 3) examine whether adaptive plastic changes have occurred in the structure or function of the CNS as a result of the intervention, and whether these neural changes help explain the pattern of improvement seen in cognitive functioning. Although projects may include an observational component, the interventions developed should be tested in a randomized clinical trial (RCT).

The Enhanced Training and Services to End Violence Against and Abuse of Women Later in Life Program provides or enhances training and services to address elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation, including sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking, involving victims who are 50 years of age or older.

The purpose of this FOA is to invite pilot/feasibility (R03) projects on: 1) descriptive studies to identify putative juvenile protective factors, 2) experimental studies to test hypotheses about their effects on aging and 3) translational studies to explore the potential risks and benefits of maintaining or modulating the level of juvenile protective factors in adult life. Juvenile protective factors are physiological factors that maintain or enhance certain functions across all or some stages of post-natal maturation, but which diminish or disappear during transitions between developmental stages (e.g., infancy, adiposity rebound, adrenarche, puberty, growth cessation). This FOA is uniquely focused on studies which involve comparisons between post-natal developmental stages or pre- vs. post-maturational changes to identify potential juvenile protective factors and their effects on aging. Pilot studies in in vitro models, in laboratory animals or in humans may be proposed.
