    Public Health Services and Systems Research (PHSSR) is a multidisciplinary field of study that examines the organization, financing, delivery and quality of public health services within communities and the resulting impact on population health. The National Coordinating Center (NCC) for PHSSR and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) seek to expand the evidence base for effective decision-making in public health practice and policy through research that responds to the questions defined in the National Agenda for PHSSR: www.publichealthsystems.org/research-agenda.aspx.  This solicitation is intended to strengthen the pool of researchers available to conduct PHSSR and to build on successful principles and models previously demonstrated in public health and health services research.     The purpose of this FOA is to encourage behavioral and social science research on the causes and solutions to health and disabilities disparities in the U. S. population. Health disparities between, on the one hand, racial/ethnic populations, lower socioeconomic classes, and rural residents and, on the other hand, the overall U.S. population are major public health concerns. Emphasis is placed on research in and among three broad areas of action: 1) public policy, 2) health care, and 3) disease/disability prevention. Particular attention is given to reducing health gaps among groups. Applications that utilize an interdisciplinary approach, investigate multiple levels of analysis, incorporate a life-course perspective, and/or employ innovative methods such as systems science or community-based participatory research are particularly encouraged.

Society-Wide Awards - M. Powell Lawton Award - 0 views

    The M. Powell Lawton Award, sponsored by The Polisher Research Institute of the Madlyn and Leonard Abramson Center for Jewish Life, recognizes outstanding contributions from applied gerontological research that have benefited older people and their care. The award was established to honor the memory of the late M. Powell Lawton, PhD, director emeritus of the Polisher Research Institute and a leading figure in aging research.  The award is presented at the GSA's Annual Scientific Meeting to an individual who exemplifies Dr. Lawton's personal and professional qualities, and whose contributions in gerontology have led to innovations in gerontological treatment, practice or service, prevention, or amelioration of symptoms or barriers. Individuals who have influenced public policy changes or demonstrated leadership in defining and implementing a creative program that led to improvement in the lives of older persons are also eligible. The awardee receives a $2,500 cash prize and certificate, and presents a lecture at the GSA's Annual Scientific Meeting the following year.  In addition, if the awardee has no support for attending the meeting, up to $1,000 can be made available for travel and per diem expenses.

    This FOA invites Research and Development Center (P30) grant applications in demography, economics and health services research relevant to Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Related Dementias (AD/ADRD). Areas of focus that are especially encouraged are: a) national and international population trends in cognitive aging and AD/ADRD; b) demography of dementia care and caregiving; c) economic burden of AD/ADRD; d) impact of health care systems and long-term supports and services on outcomes for persons with dementia and their care providers; e) impact of health care financing policies on outcomes for persons with dementia and their care providers; f) how regulatory and economic incentives affect access, quality and health outcomes in health and long-term care systems for persons with dementia; g) disparities in quality and access to dementia care; h) effects of population-level health delivery and care interventions on outcomes of persons with dementia; and i) national and international projections of dementia caseload, incidence and prevalence. Center grant applications must include two mandatory Cores and may choose among three optional Cores. Centers are required to work collaboratively with the Coordinating Center to be funded via RFA-AG-20-003.

Preventing Maternal Deaths: Supporting Maternal Mortality Review Committees - 0 views

    This funding will support agencies and organizations that coordinate and manage Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) to identify and characterize maternal deaths for identifying prevention opportunities. Recipients will identify pregnancy-associated deaths within one year of death; abstract and enter clinical and non-clinical data into a standard data system [Maternal Mortality Review Information Application (MMRIA)], conduct multidisciplinary reviews, and enter committee decisions in MMRIA within 2 years of death. Quality assurance processes, in partnership with CDC, will be used for improving data quality, completeness, and timeliness. Recipients and CDC will analyze data and share findings with stakeholders to inform policy and prevention strategies to reduce maternal deaths.
