The goal of the Hillman Innovations in Care Program is to advance leading edge, nursing-driven models of care that will improve the health and health care of vulnerable populations, including the economically disadvantaged, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ people, the homeless, rural populations, and other groups that encounter barriers to accessing quality health care services. We seek bold, evidence-based, patient- and family-centered approaches that challenge conventional strategies, improve health outcomes, lower costs, and show potential for national replicability. The Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation specifically seeks proposals that address the health care needs of vulnerable populations in the following areas: Maternal and Child Health Care of the Older Adult Chronic Illness Management

This FOA encourages exploratory and developmental research applications for research on hearing health care in adults in support of improving access and affordability. Further research is needed to strengthen the evidence base with a goal of delivering better health care outcomes in adults.

The Administration on Aging ACL intends to award one cooperative agreement designed to better understand and address the needs of the aging network through a comprehensive system of documenting and reporting on Area Agencies on Aging and Tribal Organization activities and expertise in health and the delivery of community-based services and supports.

This FOA invites applications from qualified institutions to create a Roybal Center Coordinating Center (CC), serving the needs of the Roybal Centers for Translational Research on Aging program as well as the Roybal Centers for Translational Research on Dementia Care Provider Support program. The Roybal Coordinating Center will serve as a hub for the Roybal Center grant program. Roybal Center programs conduct translational research in the behavioral and social sciences of aging, structured in accordance with the NIH Stage Model. Roybal Center program resources are intended for pilot and preliminary translational, multi-directional research at Stages 0 through IV of the behavioral intervention development pipeline with the goal of creating principle-driven interventions that improve the lives of mid-life and older people and the capacity of institutions to adapt to societal aging. The Roybal Coordinating Center will facilitate and coordinate trans-Roybal activities. The Center will work closely with the NIA Program Officer and, in coordination with all Roybal sites, will be responsive to requests generated by key Roybal site personnel, NIA, NIH, the scientific community, and the general public.

The Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications seeking to examine the outcomes of care for persons with Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease related dementias (AD/ADRD) through identifying home and community-based services (HCBS) used, as well as barriers to accessing these types of care, and unmet needs of persons with AD/ADRD concerning care and services.

The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) is inviting applications to its Prevention Beyond the Pipeline program. Through the program, grants will be awarded in support of comparative effectiveness research, prevention clinical trials, and epidemiological studies that probe whether the use or choice of drugs alters the risk for dementia or cognitive decline. Funding priorities identified by the foundation include: Consortium of Cohorts for Alzheimer's Prevention Action (CAPA) - Epidemiological studies contribute unmatched information on whether the risk of dementia or cognitive decline may be influenced by long-term exposure to specific foods or supplements. However, high-powered studies are needed in order to translate epidemiological research into actionable interventions for testing. Through the CAPA Consortium, ADDF will support collaborative analyses on dementia prevention using a minimum of five longitudinal cohorts, either harmonized or analyzed through parallel analysis of cohorts using a shared analysis script.

The purpose of NIDILRR's Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP) which are funded through the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program, is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities, including international activities, to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities, and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act). Under this particular DRRP priority, the objective is to improve long-term health outcomes of people with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The grantee will conduct research at the intervention-development stage, to directly inform and shape the development of chronic disease management approaches for meeting the complex and varied health care needs of people with TBI.

Up to 3 ADDF-Harrington Scholars are chosen each year. The award includes: Funding up to $600,000 over two years Drug development expertise and project management support through the Harrington Discovery Institute Innovation Support Center Consulting services from highly experienced drug development personnel Business and commercialization advice Clinical development advice Regulatory assistance Intellectual property review and advice Assistance identifying and securing additional financial support based on project needs The Harrington Discovery Institute and its Innovation Support Center team will work closely with the awardee and their affiliated institution to maximize the clinical and commercial potential of the selected project.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications to establish a network to identify, evaluate, track, and conduct research across multiple sites on older adults with superior cognitive performance for their age ("cognitive super agers"). The activity would support aggregation of sufficient numbers of these individuals to advance the fields understanding of factors that promote sustained cognitive health and those that are not of primary importance. Uniform identification and uniform data collection will allow the study of the behavioral, neurological, health, genetic, environmental, and lifestyle profiles that lead to sustained cognitive and brain function in advanced age. Where extant data exists, harmonization protocols would need to be developed in order to make use of all currently available data. Provision of protocols to obtain brain tissue at autopsy would be an important component.

As an administrative supplement, the work proposed needs to be within the scope of the research or training that is already supported. Center awards and resource awards are most likely to be able to justify these supplements as they tend to have a broad content scope. Some research grants will also qualify if the current research is on a related topic. Topics may include, but are not limited to, cognitive decline in aging, caregiving, or research on the biology of neurodegeneration. Research proposed in supplement applications should have clear relevance to ADRD. The proposed work may include pilot projects, resource development, or secondary analysis of existing data. In each case, the work proposed should be feasible to complete within a one-year timeframe and with the limited funds permitted. It should also show promise of becoming a more substantial project that might attract funding.

This funding opportunity is for competitive grants to be awarded under the OAA Title IV authority to increase the evidenced based knowledge base of nutrition providers, drive improved health outcomes for program recipients by promoting higher service quality, and increase program efficiency through innovative nutrition service delivery models. Funding will support innovative and promising practices that move the aging network towards evidenced based practices that enhance the quality, effectiveness of nutrition services programs or outcomes within the aging services network. Innovation can include service products that appeal to caregivers (such as web-based ordering systems and carryout food products), increased involvement of volunteers (such as retired chefs), consideration of eating habits and choice (such as variable meal times, salad bars, or more fresh fruits and vegetables), new service models (testing variations and hybrid strategies) and other innovations to better serve a generation of consumers whose needs and preferences are different. Innovation and promising practices may include the testing and publishing of positive outcomes in which nutrition programs provide a meaningful role in support of the health and long-term care of older individuals.

As part of this mission, AFA is accepting applications for its fall Family Respite Care Grant program, which is designed to help alleviate the cost of respite care for families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's or a related dementia. Grants are awarded to AFA nonprofit member organizations, which must use the funds to provide scholarships to clients with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and/or their families with financial needs. The scholarships are for respite services, such as adult-day programs, in-home aides, and companion care or overnight respite at the grantee's own organization or another organization.

The SBIR program, as established by law, is intended to meet the following goals: stimulate technological innovation in the private sector; strengthen the role of small business in meeting Federal research or research and development (R/R&D) needs; increase the commercial application of Federally-supported research results; foster and encourage participation by socially and economically disadvantaged small business concerns and women-owned business concerns in the SBIR program; and improve the return on investment from Federally-funded research for economic and social benefits to the Nation.

The objective of this funding opportunity announcement is to build upon work previously done in this area by promoting continued and expanded engagement in national peer-to-peer networks, furthering the design and implementation of small grants demonstration programs at the community level, strengthening and refining evaluation and continuous improvement processes, and expanding dissemination activities. The goal of this 5 year project is to build upon proven models and approaches that can be used by states and communities across the country to involve people with disabilities and older adults in the design and implementation of coordinated transportation systems in ways that successfully make those systems responsive to the needs of these populations. The successful applicant will be expected to build upon the advancements made in this area over the previous 5 years by continuing to establish and expand the partnerships necessary to ensure full inclusion of person with disabilities and older adults in transportation policy and program development, further growing and developing peer-to-peer support networks for the purposes of knowledge sharing and capacity building, further stimulating inclusive transportation planning and service provision through the administration of a small grants demonstration program, and developing in collaboration with ACL a detailed evaluation program. Collect and synthesize information relevant to new and emerging practices experienced in the field.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to promote research on interventions, based in healthcare settings, designed to reduce overscreening for breast, cervical, or colorectal cancers among average-risk older adults. While ongoing efforts to promote screening have been successful, there is growing concern that these tests may be overused, thereby subjecting adults to unnecessary risks. Overscreening older adults may be driven by factors at the individual, healthcare team, healthcare system and community organization levels. Therefore, research is needed both to understand the factors that drive overuse and to develop and test interventions that will reduce overuse in healthcare delivery systems. Research supported by this FOA should propose to intervene at two or more levels, and should measure outcomes at two or more levels, while accounting for interactions that occur between levels. Research supported by this FOA should enhance knowledge and consequences of overscreening to improve the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults.

This FOA invites applications that address clinical and translational research gaps in the study of end-of-life care needs in order to improve quality of life at the end of life of people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and their families. Research that either employs (a) secondary analysis of existing data from longitudinal cohort studies or from administrative records or (b) primary data collection for Stage I behavioral intervention development is particularly encouraged.
