The Gene D. Cohen Award, sponsored by the National Center for Creative Aging (NCCA), recognizes and honors the seminal work of Dr. Gene Cohen, whose research in the field of creativity and aging has shifted the conceptual focus from a problem paradigm to one of promise and potential. Dr. Cohen has inspired us to approach longevity asking what wonders can be achieved, not in spite of age, but because of age. The award is presented annually to a professional whose research in the field of creativity and aging demonstrates these positive attributes. Presented annually at the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting at the Arts and Humanities Reception, the award consists of the following: Travel and lodging (limit to $1,000) to attend the GSA Annual Scientific Meeting GSA Annual Scientific Meeting Registration A program profile included in GSA's Annual Meeting Program, which will be distributed to attendees and posted on the GSA website. Recognition on the NCCA website Recognition by peers at an awards presentation Press release Award nomination is open to any individual who has produced research that demonstrates the benefits of creativity in arts including but not limited to visual arts, music, dance, drama, writing and multi media. Nominees should demonstrate leadership and contributions in the field of creativity and aging through research.

The Interdisciplinary Behavioral and Social Science Research (IBSS) competition promotes the conduct of interdisciplinary research by teams of investigators in the social and behavioral sciences. Emphasis is placed on support for research that involves researchers from multiple SBE disciplinary fields and that integrates scientific theoretical approaches and methodologies from multiple SBE disciplinary fields. Emphasis also is placed on the significance of expected intellectual contributions that are likely to yield generalizable insights and information that will enhance theoretical perspectives and advance basic knowledge and capabilities across multiple SBE disciplinary fields. Although the IBSS competition will consider any proposal that addresses a topic for which the proposal makes a compelling case that the research will enhance broader theoretical understanding across multiple social and behavioral science fields, social and behavioral science researchers are especially encouraged to submit proposals for research on one of the following three broadly defined topics: Population Change; Sources and Consequences of Disparities; and Technology, New Media, and Social Networks.

Since 1991, Administration for Community Living (ACL)/Administration on Aging (AoA) has supported the National Aging Information & Referral Support Center (the Support Center). The Support Center was established to assist the aging network of State Agencies on Aging, Area Agencies on Aging, Tribal organizations, and local aging information and referral (I&R) providers enhance the quality and professionalism of their information and assistance systems. Since 2003, the Support Center has provided technical assistance and training to Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs). The Support Center provides comprehensive information and technical assistance on a variety of issues relating to information and assistance on aging and more recently programs for people with disabilities. Aging and disability I&R programs and ADRCs continue to evolve and expand their ability to provide person-centered access to information and assistance. I&Rs and ADRCs are working to improve collaboration and coordination to better serve aging and disability populations, families, and caregivers. In addition, new media, mobile innovations, and other technologies have completely changed the way individuals expect to access and receive information. To assist the aging and disability networks, including ADRCs, to respond to these and other emerging issues ACL will fund a new Cooperative Agreement to provide technical assistance and training.

The mission of the Administration for Community Living (ACL) Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program is to empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse. Through outreach, counseling, and education, the SMP program increases awareness and understanding of health care programs to protect Medicare beneficiaries from the economic and health-related consequences associated with Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. ACL currently provides grant funding to support 53 SMP projects, including grantees in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. The SMP projects use this funding to provide local outreach, education, and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries through a trained volunteer workforce. SMP projects teach Medicare beneficiaries to protect their Medicare numbers, to detect billing discrepancies on their quarterly Medicare Summary Notice statements, and to report suspicious activity for further investigation. In addition, SMP projects actively disseminate fraud prevention and identification information through the media, outreach campaigns, and community events.

The program provides support to nonprofits interested in making long-term improvements in their management, governance, and/or organizational capacity. Grants may be used for capacity-building activities that include but are not limited to strategic planning; financial management, including cash flow, budget development, and financial controls; program evaluation planning; communications and marketing, including website development, public relations, and the use of social media; resource development and fundraising; human resources, including professional development, succession planning, staffing structure, assessment, and retention; information systems management, including technology enhancements; board development, including assessment, recruitment, training, and structuring; and restructuring and relationship building with other nonprofit organizations aimed at strengthening service delivery, reducing costs, and sharing resources.

The Board of Regents is seeking high quality, focused cooperative education and internship program proposals from Ohio institutions of higher education and their partners. This program has been funded  through one-time casino licensing fees; it is expected that the funds will be awarded to build systems to sustain co-ops and internships beyond the direct investment from the State and to ensure these workbased learning opportunities are relevant to the needs of students and businesses. Funds will be awarded to build the capability and capacity of programs to engage more students, more businesses,  and more faculty members in co-op and internship programs. The programs should address the talent needs of JobsOhio key industries.

The Dayton Foundation is requesting Letters of Intent (LOI) for the Del Mar Social Innovation Award for Older Adult Programming. This new award is presented by a fund of The Dayton Foundation and will recognize the best innovations from Greater Dayton not-for-profit organizations that demonstrate break-through thinking in helping to address issues facing older adults (ages 55 and above). One or more organizations may be selected to receive the Del Mar Award and share the maximum grant amount of $100,000. The deadline to submit a completed LOI is January 15, 2014.
