The overall goal of this FOA is to support the development of a collaborative research and resource network to synergize the expertise, skills, and resources of investigators within the geriatric emergency medicine and Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD) research communities to identify and address research gaps towards optimizing recognition and emergency care of older adults with AD/ADRD.

Specific opportunities include the development of decision-supportive interventions to leverage cognitive, emotional and motivational strengths of these populations; tools to assess decisional capacity; strategies for simplifying choices and offering better defaults; and the promotion of timely adoption of optimal delegation practices (e.g., power of attorney, living wells, etc.).

The Zenith Fellows award was initiated in 1991 to provide a vehicle for research support for donors with a substantial personal commitment to the advancement of Alzheimer's disease research. The awards are made possible by the generosity of a group of individuals and organizations (Zenith Society) that have each committed $1 million to the Alzheimer's Association for support of the program.

This FOA invites applications for a Demography and Economics of Aging and AD/ADRD Coordinating Center (CC) whose purpose is to act as a hub, serving the needs of both traditional Centers on the Demography and Economics of Aging (D&E Centers) and Centers on the Demography and Economics of Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Related Dementias (D&E Centers on AD/ADRD), as well as the needs of NIA program staff. The goals of the overall D&E Center program are to seed new lines of research in a) the demography and economics of aging and b) demography, economics and health services research relevant to AD/ADRD, and to grow the number of researchers engaged in these fields through a variety of research and infrastructure activities that are built around specific research themes. The purpose of the CC is to work collaboratively with all participating Center sites to: maintain an active multi-center website; disseminate Center research advances, activities and resources to the research community, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders; maintain a centralized database to track and synthesize progress and outcomes of Center and CC activities for the purpose of annual reporting to individual Centers and to NIA Program Staff, and for future program evaluation by NIA; arrange an annual in-person meeting; foster communication and collaborative activities within and across both D&E Center programs and with other NIA research Centers; serve as the point-of-contact for the overall D&E Centers program by NIA staff, other NIA Centers and the broader scientific community.

As health advances allow people to live longer, healthy aging has become an urgent frontier for research. The burden of age-related cognitive impairment - whether from Alzheimer's disease, vascular dysfunction, or other causes - is growing exponentially. To accelerate collaborative brain-aging research, the Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association are committing $43 million with additional partners to co-fund a new research initiative with the goal of shedding new light on how to better prevent, detect, and treat age-related cognitive impairment, including Alzheimer's disease.

The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) is inviting applications to its Prevention Beyond the Pipeline program. Through the program, grants will be awarded in support of comparative effectiveness research, prevention clinical trials, and epidemiological studies that probe whether the use or choice of drugs alters the risk for dementia or cognitive decline. Funding priorities identified by the foundation include: Consortium of Cohorts for Alzheimer's Prevention Action (CAPA) - Epidemiological studies contribute unmatched information on whether the risk of dementia or cognitive decline may be influenced by long-term exposure to specific foods or supplements. However, high-powered studies are needed in order to translate epidemiological research into actionable interventions for testing. Through the CAPA Consortium, ADDF will support collaborative analyses on dementia prevention using a minimum of five longitudinal cohorts, either harmonized or analyzed through parallel analysis of cohorts using a shared analysis script.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites U24 Cooperative Agreement applications aiming to establish several mis-folded protein polymorphisms resource networks in the area of Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD). The central goal of these resource networks is to standardize and distribute seed, oligomers, and fibrils to other investigators in order to clarify and improve the reproducibility of experiments in AD/ADRD. For the past several years, many studies have developed assays and reagents to understand the biophysical properties of various tau and Aß structural variants such as oligomers, protofibrils, and fibrils. As a result, many imaging, chemical, and immunological tools have been developed to detect different types of Aß and tau polymorphs. Establishing standards, understanding the pathological roles of these protein polymorphs, and using newly developed analytic tools to address the direct correlation between patient-to-patient variations in Aß and tau polymorphs are the long-term goals of the resource networks supported by this FOA.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for P30 Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers (ADRCs). NIA-designated ADRCs serve as major sources of discovery into the nature of Alzheimers disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD) and into the development of more effective approaches to prevention, diagnosis, care, and therapy. As part of this mission, AFA is accepting applications for its fall Family Respite Care Grant program, which is designed to help alleviate the cost of respite care for families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's or a related dementia. Grants are awarded to AFA nonprofit member organizations, which must use the funds to provide scholarships to clients with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and/or their families with financial needs. The scholarships are for respite services, such as adult-day programs, in-home aides, and companion care or overnight respite at the grantee's own organization or another organization.
