This website has lots of potential for setting context when teaching a novel or time period. Check it out--you insert a year and then lots of interesting videos are selected (advertisements, etc).

Free webinars offered by Simple K12--I have attended some of these in the past and they were worth my time.

Livescribe (reviewed positively in NY Times 8-19-10) allows the writer to take notes that are translated to computer; can also record and play back. Lots of potential, though a bit pricey (around $200--probably will come down, if we are patient!).

I searching through our old posts and found this one. The pens have come down in price, I bought one last fall ($100). My principal also bought a dozen or so with multiple paper packs (an educator bundle). I am using them in the fourth grade tier 2 intervention group for fluency. The students use them to record their reading, then they can listen to them selves to determine expression, monitor their time, and answer comprehension questions (again listening if they need to). I use them in 6th grade for literature circles. The students initial when they talk, so I can go back and tap their initials and evaluate their questioning/discussion. Some of my teachers use them for running records to share with other teachers and parents too.

Storyplanet, in beta testing, is another new digital storytelling tool. Worth a look over time.

Using your gmail account, you can watch YouTube videos and take notes at the same time (on screen) with VideoNot. I see lots of potential here.

iPad website that stresses the importance of purposes before using. Worth your time and you can subscribe.

Google app scripts have the potential to provide meaningful feedback to students with in reasonable time frames. Worth a look.

Doodlecast Pro allows you to record your voice and your drawing at the same time on the iPad (current cost $3.99). Version 2.2 has gotten mixed reviews, but it might be helpful in showcasing math, for example.

This resource gives you trends and recommendations, often in collections. You do have to join, but it's free. Worth your time to look.

Free apps to celebrat National Reading Month. Auryn, Inc. will have a free interactive reading iPad/Phone app each day of March. Worth your time to look.

Cathy Mere's blog--well worth reading, this is a great post about taking time to observe and get to know your students in other ways besides formal assessment.

Pogue is someone to watch. I use many Google Apps and this might replace my use of Skype. Check it out. Internationally, I get 'bumped' from Skype easily, so I am curious about this Google application. This NY Times article was shared with me by Connie Frazer, who is Director of Sage Online.
