Zotero allows students to keep track of where they researched; helpful for reference and research puproses. Works with Firefox and can sync. Looks good. Download the app (free).
Remember Life Magazine--always had great images. Here are public domain images that your students can use without fear of copyright infringement. Some were published images and some were not. Images are separated by decades starting in 1860. Would be good for historical perspectives as well as today.
gClassFolders (google shared public template) looks like it has a lot of potential for English teachers. Student has to 'drag' the dropbox folder to their desktop, but they can put work 'view' and 'edit' in for the teacher as well as final copy. Check it out--click on the video to see a quick, clear demonstration.
Great podcast from Peter Johnston wherein he discusses the impact of language on students' perspectives (e.g., culture of language of strategies) and knowledge. Worth a listen!
