Might be an excellent tool for development of the tech plans in the districts!

Didn't see much here that Google Apps couldn't do for free. With collaborative calendars, shared docs, group chat, collaborative sites that all work together, it's a pretty powerful tool. And when teachers learn to use it better, they will discover more ways to utilize it in the classroom.

  • Somehow we keep confusing technology use in the classroom with negative outcomes rather than seeing and understanding the exponential expansion of learning possibilities and the positive advantages our student will have in navigating the world of new jobs still unknown to us because of their familiarity with technology.

This fear factor reasoning not only denies students access to the tools that will aid their learning, but it it also sets them up for troubles and potential failure in that they don't learn cyber responsibility in a guided way, but are left to the very "wolves" we think we are protecting them from.  "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil"  that's our current motto in education.
  • Errors of omission consist of not doing something that should have been done.
  • Of these, errors of omission are usually the most costly because it is harder to correct a missed opportunity than to correct something that has been done.

  • Thus, those who want to avoid errors in an organization that define mistakes as a bad – if not punishable – thing find that to maximize their job security they should do as little as possible.” (Ackoff & Greenberg, p.7575)
  • There are and should be no more excuses, just swiftly planned action to put technology in the hands of every student for use whenever there is a need.

Why Social Media Doesn't Matter Anymore | Small Business Marketing Blog from Duct Tape ... - 1 views

  •
I like reading marketing blogs because they focus on communicating and building support for new ideas--sounds a lot like technology integration and education in general. Consider this revised quote from the bookmarked blog post: "The reason social media doesn't matter is because, upon further review, it doesn't exist beyond a label. While all the categorizing, classifying and departmentalizing was going on, that which was called social media simply settled into the center of [learning] and [instructional] strategy and behavior. Everything that we called social media is irrelevant and mislabed - there's a new way of doing [teaching] and [learning] for sure, but it's a behavior and focus on [student] involvement that's become a new norm - and that's all there is to it. We don't need social media tools, social media plans, social media agencies, or social media departments, we need [instructional] strategies and [practices] that are informed by a terribly heightened [learner] expectation."
