Impoverished/disabled Hondurans redirect air to Haiti - 0 views

  •
There are about half a million Hondurans on the Moskita Coast, a geographically isolated region of the Honduran jungle along the border with Nicarauga. This is one of the poorest regions in the world, close in comparison with those living in Haiti. The people living in this area make their living mostly off of the sea, and there are about 1500 young men who work as lobster divers. However, they suffer from a neurological disorder known as "The Bends," which has caused the divers to be crippled/disabled (they are forced to make repeated dives without decompressing). Dr. Steve Foster started sending aid to the Moskita coast, and recently sent 2 40 foot containers with supples, including 78 wheelchairs for the crippled divers. The astonishing part is that, once those in Honduras found out about the disaster in Haiti, they insisted on redirecting the care packages to the Haitian people.
