I am moving toward more tech and eventually considering textbook-free classes. Step one is trying a semester with Aplia, a text-linked software program that will allow me to entirely design the course using the online version of the text I selected for my students, complete with a grade book and assignment records for each student. I am excited to start using such a technology-intensive approach for my classes.

I know many people use Google Docs for collaborative writing - I used to use Google Docs all the time as well, but OneNote Online is my new favorite! It has a book-like layout and you can create several tabs for different groups so everyone has their own space (their own page in a tab), which is less confusing than Google Docs.
Very interesting indeed. I have always thought that students are more reflective when they post their responses online than when we are having F2F discussions in the classroom. And now it's supported by surveys. In the end it's true though that even if online courses require more self-motivation and time-management skills, student engagement still relies a lot on how the instructor manages the online classroom. Thanks for posting!

Freakonomics by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner was a New York Times bestseller in the early 2000's. Here is the description of Stephen Dubner's Radio Show: "Freakonomics Radio is an award-winning weekly podcast (subscribe here!) with 8 million downloads per month. It can also be heard on public radio stations across the country, on SiriusXM, on several major airlines, and elsewhere. Host Stephen J. Dubner has surprising conversations that explore the riddles of everyday life and the weird wrinkles of human nature - from cheating and crime to parenting and sports. Dubner talks with Nobel laureates and provocateurs, social scientists and entrepreneurs - and his Freakonomics co-author Steve Levitt. Freakonomics Radio is produced by Dubner Productions and WNYC Studios."
Web 2.0 and Emerging Learning Technologies/Web 2.0 Learning Styles describes how technology Web 2.0 tools are used to enhance students learning. Furthermore, Howard Gardner's learning styles are discusses as well and his theory of Multiple Intelligence. Finally, the main characteristics of the Web 2.0 learners are summarized.
In addition to theories of multiple intelligences and learning styles there are issues related to learner personalities. The widely accepted traditional model of education too often fails to consider all these areas. Some teachers, however, address the kind of senses (auditory, visual) the learner uses, the learner's aptitude (Theory of Multiple Intelligences), and the personality type.

This is awesome. Thank you for sharing. I could definitely use the sites here. One I'm intrigued by is the Book Creator and the Meme generator! Both can definitely be used to spice up writing classes.
