Recognizing the grave consequences for individual opportunity and more generally for our economy and society, the Carnegie Statway ™and Quantway ™Networked improvement Communities have embraced an audacious goal-to increase from 5 percent to 50 percent the percentage of students who achieve college math credit within one year of continuous enrollment. As a result of the Carnegie Advancement for Teaching (CAT) work, my college will undergo a pilot program for Fall 2012 where i will be the instructor to achieve college math credit within one year on continuous enrollment. The Pathways Blog provides information about Carnegie's work to create pathways for student success in developmental education in community colleges and makes connections between Carnegie's work and that of others concerned with student struggle. Even though i follow the pathways blog, there are several more blogs from the foundation and are listed blow:

Should teachers be using social media in the classroom? - 3 views

  •
Mostly about High School but i think still pertinent.
  •
This is an interesting article about 8th graders. it applies also to most of high school students also, but i believe that mature adults can use it as a useful tool that enhances education. For many it is nothing more than an escape from the duties of the real world. i have found it to be both "All about me" and informative. Social media does need to be taught in the classroom if it's going to used.

Video Everywhere - 3 views

Video Everywhere is a new technology tool that i am exploring as a way to introduce video into my online classes. i plan to use this tool to introduce my students to each module in my online classes. Video Everywhere recordings benefit all students who need repetitive review of material and feedback. Video assists deaf students as well by allowing them to record and share sign language. Video Everywhere helps students who are enrolled in classes that are taught in non-native languages, giving them exposure to vocabulary and pronunciation according to their Web Site. i am looking forward to incorporating this tool into my classes.

Teenagers and social networking - it might actually be good for them - 4 views

  •
Given the harsh criticisms that social networks commonly face when it comes to their use by teenagers, i thought it would be useful to post this newspaper piece that presents the opposite argument: Social media might be usually considered to be just places of the lurking danger of real-life social isolation (among more gruesome dangers in this context), but they could also be seen as places where a teenager can be inventive, discover aptitudes and of course develop his/her social skills. Also, it discusses research which shows that teenagers are more often than not well aware of the dangers that lie behind the (ab)use of social media.
  •
Hmmm, should I share thIs wIth my teenage son?
  •
Good article, though i am still sceptical!
