Let someone else find the technology tools - 1 views

  •
Consider going straight to Google itself and see what technology tools appear in their list of apps. Much easier than searching for your own. Since many businesses and organizations also use Google Mail as their internal communication platform, the now mainstream acceptance means the apps are likely fairly robust and worth a try.

A Georgia Tech student claims he and two roommates were able to get any user's phone number, that they texted the founder (who, he said, called him back), to spam any user, and to send any text they want. Now it looks like one of them will be working for the company.

Best app for texting your students - 1 views

  •
Students are on top of texting and it's great to communicate with them, but giving out ones cell phone number isn't the best idea. This app solves the problem, text go out, but your number stays hidden.

Product blurb: Looking for fast and easy mailing lists? Get stylish, effective results in 5 minutes or less. Personal experience: I have found these posters to be great for interactive review materials and enrichment. It's a quick way to organize anything you can post using Google Docs (so Google Forms (quizzes), Slides, etc...), websites, images, YouTube videos, etc... and the first 5 or so posters are free. The best part is it is very user-friendly. I highly recommend trying it out!

Does Facebook really have a place in the classroom? - 0 views

  •
The main argument stems from the fact that the students (and most of the teachers) are already there. Facebook has 1.1 billion users, and despite reports that young people are drifting away from Facebook in favour of mobile messaging apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat, you'd be hard pressed to find a teenager in the UK without an account.

Educational Games Research " Is FarmVille Educational? - 1 views

  •
This blog has followed social gaming juggernaut Zynga's progress for a couple years now. One of its most popular gaming apps is FarmVille, which runs on Facebook and touts an estimated 70 million players, making it one of, if not the, most popular games ever. Testaments to the game's popularity abound. I opted to post this here as we are debating the use of Web 2.0 tools in education. Farmville dominated Facebook games for a number of years, and educators made use of this trend to enhance their teaching. Though it has not been developed for educational purposes, I know even teachers of business studies who used it in their classes with students 13+ of age. This example should encourage us to make use of what is trending and popular with our students to our advantage!

The pros and cons of social media classrooms | ZDNet - 1 views

The debate surrounding social media as a learning tool is unlikely to abate any time soon. Is it just a distraction, or do the interactive educational tools available outweigh any disadvantages? Social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, are becoming steadily more integrated within a variety of apps targeted at learning.
