This would be great for manuals, textbooks, or any type of file sharing.

The Internet Archive/Wayback Machine provides a way of accessing older versions of a website. It can also be useful if a site is temporarily inaccessible. Internet Archive is a non-profit digital library offering free universal access to books, movies & music, as well as 150 billion archived web pages.

Diigo Group lists built from scratch by subject experts could yield low cost-alternatives to old-fashioned texts as suggested in this Wired Campus article.
