The idea of this cover song is to mix the traditional Bulgarian 5/8 song about Gyura who goes down to the river with the Medicine song by Rising Appalachia, which is actually a reggae-style song, "honoring the traditions of folk medicine; plant-based medicine as a tool for empowerment and healing. It is a call to action to support the voices of the herbalists, healers, and teachers… the roots, plants, trees, and stones… the arts, the spirits, and the wild ones. It is an honoring of all the many ways that we can be well, and the radical and traditional ways in which we can steward health within ourselves. This song is a direct tribute to the people around the world who are holding and teaching these ways of herbal plant-based medicine, educating us all to know our gardens, our forests, our plants and our own bodies... to bring wellness back into our own hands and communities. It is not a dismissal of modern medicine, but a gratitude and honoring of its ancestry and foundations within folkloric traditions. As we are moving into a new season, a new time, and a new chapter, we offer this song as a ritual anthem for this transition and time of great change. On 23rd December 2018, a group of friends & strangers, students & teachers, Europeans & Indians, got together for an experimental, sacred, high-energy JAMily concert at a vegan restaurant in Varanasi, India. This is an excerpt of our language of music! At minute 7, on a totally different context, I was inspired to lay down some vocals with lyrics from the Cypriot traditional song "Ela korou na doume ta mavra sou ta mathkia". The video includes our journey from the guesthouse to the venue with our instruments and our smiles, through holy Ganga river! Besides our Indian Classical Music studies with our masters during our stay in Varanasi that month, we were inspired to put forward a methodological tool, called THE ELEMENT KEY SYSTEM, which is essentially a sign language for musicians to use in order to conduct one another while improvising with music; and expanded to applications to life itself! At one of our legendary 2-day rehearsals (rehearse the evening of one day, have dinner together, hang out and sleep, wake up, have breakfast together, rehearse until afternoon then continue with the rest of our lives !! marathon) in Athens, Greece. Moments like this are meant to be shared and remembered. On 16/6/2022 we were appointed by PuraVida Festival (Kaya, Yoi, Julia, Walker and myself Marlia) to hold a cacao ceremony circle (one of the biggest ones of approx. 400 people) with sacred songs as part of the opening/welcoming first night of the festival. This is what came through after opening the 4 cardinal directions, calling in Mother Earth, Father Sky, Spirits of this Land, Guardians, Masters and Spirit of Cacao. In this first episode of our Nādā Yoga practice series, we'll be working on a basic standing posture called Urdhva Dandasana. Urdhva Dandasana is a great pose to start your day, and it's also great for strengthening your core and improving your posture. Marlia Coeur, instructor of traditional Nādā Yoga and Kundalini Yoga, will be joining us in this practice, and she'll be teaching us how to do this pose and some other basics. One beautiful night towards the end of August 2020, we gathered together (like in the old times!.. hehe) and co-created another Nectar Night at this amazing family place called Soma in the healing capital of Bali, Ubud. Marlia project invited a number of accredited and talented musicians "on-stage" to accompany Marlia Cœur in guiding the whole spaceship through Middle-Eastern Mediterranean acoustic flavours, odd rhythms, lament melodies, lots and lots of harmonisations, and of course coming together into a single Embrace of Life Celebration and community event.
