A multimedia version of Wikipedia. Searchable by words in video or other media. As available as an app for iPad. Might be good for project-based and content-based learning. From Carla Arena.

Lots of documentaries on an enormous variety of subjects. These can be used to spark conversation and get students ready to do their own research for a paper. Professionally produced, and free. Many are award-winning. Categories are listed, and there is a search function. Not specifically directed to ESL/EFL, but good authentic content.

Another teacher training site for technology. However, this is rapidly spoken and may be difficult for NNEST to follow easily. The front page has a nice explanation of how the site works and how each video is set up. The site is divided roughly into tools for newbies, developing users, and advanced users. Each video also has a link, and all the tools described are free.

"See the best data visualizations on the web all in one place." Mainly infographics--charts and informational maps. Students could upload their own graphs, et al., for comment and feedback, and the site purports to be creating new data visualization tools.

A blog describing, very briefly, a large number of tools. Mostly a list, but promises to do more later. Includes both Web and mobile tools, but sorted only roughly into categories.

This remarkable concordancer has many quick and easy features, such as seeing visually with a graph the frequency of occurrences of a word, quick links to the word embedded in a concordance, a thesaurus of alternative vocabulary, and indications of "good" and "bad" uses of a word. Stannard doesn't talk much about the pedagogy of the tool, but it is well worth exploring, esp. with your more advanced students. The training tool gives you an idea of how a concordancer is used. JtW works with Wordle.

A cute way to introduce yourself to your students, and vice versa. Students in teams could post their pictures and comment on each other's "peach." Add music, share on Fb or Twitter, make comments, make private or public. Example from EVO_Drama_2012 at http://photopeach.com/album/10l8r5x.

"Drawing and recording your voice is not an easy task. What I've discovered is that once you start drawing, and your focus shifts to the image, there are few barriers to speaking. "The tool I'd like to share today is EDUCREATIONS (http://www.educreastions.com). I haven't explored it to its full potential but what I've seen so far is good enough. The free tool allows you use your mouse or your finger (ipad) to draw stick figures while you record your voice. You can also upload an image and draw and record your voice at the same time. Once finished, look at the right side below the twitter and facebook buttons for the URL and the embed code which allows you publish the recording."

Collect, curate, and publish content about your favorite topics in a group. Content can be text, images, video, and audio streams (podcasting), with no cutting or pasting. Mix up content, organizing as you wish, and you can do it with a group, then publishing a magazine of what you found. You can share your work on blogs and other social accounts.

The Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies has made this useful list of educational tools. However there is no info or notes or suggestions for use. Most are already in our Diigo.

Simple audio recording too. Click to start recording, and then send it to a student--or vice-versa. You can also embed the recording in your blog or podcast or wiki. You can link Vocaroo to your Twitter or Facebook account, sending it via your social network, or download the recording to archive as an MP3 file to show student improvement. Audio and some video titl at these sites are free. I think you might be able to use a desktop recorder like Audacity to record a book to a set of files to take with you, or put on an iPhone. (Avoid the ads at the top of this page--the article is below.)

List for special instances and deals with copyright issues as well.: "I'd lay odds that most people, including myself, just use Google Image Search when they need to find an image. However, there might be instances when you want to use another tool - perhaps you're a language teacher searching for just the right clip art or photography to illustrate a verb, maybe you have very young students and are concerned about what they might find on Google, possibly you're particularly teaching about copyright issues, or you want your students to easily connect an image to a writing exercise and have them send an E-Card."

A whole bunch of educational links that speak to reasons why students should use blogs, tips for using iPods in the classroom, PowerPoint for collaborations, etc. Many sites worth exploring.

Yet another course management system. Might be worth a try. Claims to combine social networking with learning management, and has a very nice interface. And it's free.

This looks like a fun way to keep in touch with sstudents, or have them subscribe to each other's work. You write a newsletter, then select "friends" to mail to, or send them a subscription link.

Very simple interface and good clear audio make this online app an easy way for students to practice speaking. Can be sent by email or posted on the Internet to a Website, or linked to from the Vocaroo site.

Another free screencast tool--no downloading. Lots of informative screencasts archived at the site also. Make instructional videos for your students, or engage them in a project to create instructional screencasts for their peers.

"All pictures on Ookaboo are available free under public domain or Creative Commons and can be used on web sites and for classwork and other creative projects." The site begins at a map with pegs for locations, or you can use a modet search engine. It willtake a little time to find something you want. Commons licensing for most pictures.
