This is an excellent list by esteemed conductor Karen Bruno that showcases several pieces that are great for treble choirs. The best part of the list is that it doesn't showcase the same tried-and-true standards, but rather she goes beyond the typical scope and brings in works that are not so common. It's a great resource for programming!

The Smithsonian Folkways website offers lesson plans and recordings pertaining to world music. Using the map tool, teachers can select a region and view a PDF lesson plan (primarily for upper elementary, middle, and high school levels) and links to tracks for purchase or streaming. The site also includes information about professional development and interactive features, such as a jazz mixer and "Meet the Mariachi."

Smithsonian Folkways is the record label of the Smithsonian Institute. Website includes free resources for the classroom including lesson plans, courses for teachers, and additional resources including thousands of recordings.

These are the new 2014 anchor standards. I reference these often to make sure my lessons are not just meeting district standards, but national standards as well. They also help give me ideas if I am struggling with lesson ideas.

This "cheat sheet" is an excellent study resource for music theory. This sheet contains definitions and music theory rules, scale types, and reminders about intervals. It comes in handy for test preparation and could even be used as a checklist with each student to assess student knowledge.

For those who don't know, Dr. John M. Long, founder of the "Sound of the South" at Troy University, is an icon in the band world and has touched many lives for many years. This is a reflection by a former student of his for when Dr. Long was recognized at the Kennedy Center for the Sondheim Award. There is a very inspirational quote at the very end that is something that all students need to hear.

This document provides relevant information for the proper setup of a percussion section. The Percussive Arts Society offers simple suggestions for any band director who may not be a percussionist. The content provided in this document will be most relevant to ensemble directors who work with percussionists. 

The website provides helpful information for assessing and diagnosing common mistakes on the clarinet. The author of this website offers useful advice for educators who may not understand the intricacies of teaching beginning clarinetists. This information would be most relevant for band directors and private studio teachers.

The website for the "President's Own" United States Marine Band includes many educational resources. Along with high quality recordings by a phenomenal ensemble, the site offers many other educational aspects, including three volumes of the marches of John Philip Sousa. The marches may be downloaded in PDF format and used by any ensemble. They include the scores, parts, and detailed information on each march. This is great to use in order to teach students about marches and their forms.
