Name: Achumawi - "The River People" Location: The Pit River in Northeast California. The Achumawi were neighbors of the Atsugewi, located where the Pit River drained into the canyons. They only inhabited permanent villages, which were located near streams during the winter months. The rest of the year they moved throughout their territory hunting, fishing and gathering.

Warp Materials Hazel and Willow The primary materials used for the warp of the firm twined Northern California baskets are Hazel or Willow. Hazel was preferred as it was stronger and more bug resistant than willow.
