Motion control: Startup company GestSure uses Kinect for Windows to allow surgeons to look through medical images without having to touch unsterile equipment. While most of the headlines about Microsoft this fall will concern its new operating system, Windows 8, and its new Surface tablet, the company is also working hard on a long-term effort to reinvent the way we interact with existing computers. *I knew my Just Dance skills would pay off!

This is an awesome tool I saw at the Evergreen conference. I used it on the Merlin git repo which was cool to see but since everything is in a flat directory structure and it's mostly Jessica (and a little bit me) committing it's not nearly as cool as some of the videos from other projects.

I'm going to investigate this. Not sure how well it would work for a real workhorse web server, but in theory it looks legit.

Describes the use of analytics tools such as Inspectlet, ClickTale, userfly, and more; it includes a nice little comparison table of features. Particularly cool are the real time screenshots and heatmaps depicting page use.

Basically, with git, every merge is a conflict, which leaves you with an index that contains three versions of each file, the versions from each branch and the base. On this index, various resolvers are run, which can decide for each individual file how to resolve the matter.

This was good and something I need to keep in mind. The original Ten Commandments that most people are at least passingly familiar with represent rules for how Jews and Christians should conduct their lives.

On the heels of our keynote speaker, whose presentation has been weighing on my mind, this makes me worry that what will cause things to be lost is not things simply not being updated, but also things not being findable-- if some information doesn't have any sort of access point, it may as well not exist.

Free kits for teachers to help students learn to code and hopefully generate interest in coding. This is a really neat program I'm interested in how teachers like it and how they fit it in to their busy schedules. I imagine there is a lot of collaboration between teachers and librarians, since often times librarians are in charge of the school's computer lab.

A A Here's a sign that e-readers are struggling in the U.S.: E Ink Holdings, the Taiwan-based company that makes e-reader screens for companies such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Sony, just had its worst quarter in four years. This article had some interesting points and the comments brought up some good questions as well. As a former B&N employee it will be interesting to see what they do in the next coming years with the e-reader/e-books.
