    I wanted to see all group members in this conference. It was a second episode of our visit for " Seven Schools in Finland" exhibition in Cermodern. There was a model school design with its learning hubs conducted by Canon design and Koç University. It is very unique in Turkey will be finished in 2014. All the learning environments were designed according to the students' learning. Most of the learning hubs, not classrooms, are not square or rectangle they are curvic. Outside of the school were built with the glasses in order to take advantage of the sunlight properly. School is in the area of 7000 m2 in Beykoz, İstanbul. Teachers who will be work in the school have been trained within the framework of nature of the model school, student-centered approach. As you remembered, in Cermodern I could not find the answer to the learning environment of Finland schools. This conference let me go one step further to imagine what constructivist learning environment is. The emphasis on importance of "Educational Architecture" is another issue I was enlightened. Maybe, we can attend the openning of the Model School. Thank you for your concern.

    Ok, I have been trying to explain how I approach teaching in higher education. This explains it clearly. Indeed, I do have very high expectations from my students and I believe high expectations bring greater achievement.

    Erdem, this is the list about reputation. They are asking academicians about reputed universities around the world. METU has been actively involved in the international projects and quite a big number of professors were mobilized from the US, Europe, and Canada in the last couple years. However, Turkey has the lowest budget in the list. That creates problems with getting the funds that are needed to create quality research, and thus increase the number of high impact research and publications.

    Hocam, today I have read about the details from news and also had conversation with my friends at work, the results actually seems to be reliable and proud. And yes, METU has the lowest budget!.     Dinçer, thanks for sharing. I support the idea that traditional schools should be supported by technology. However, in my opinion, technology should not be used as a total substitute of traditional campus-based education. By stating that, I do not support idea that technology can not offer the effectiveness of content transfer to students. Rather, it offers a wide range of opportunities to enhance learning. However, in my opinion, we should not separate people from each other anywhere in the world. The long term effects of technology and mass city life is not clear yet. At least, we know about depressions and diseases because of long term stress crises. Thus, today's schools should also reteach people to be together. To put it differently, we should use technology for "better learning together".

Eğitim Reformu Girişiminin çıkardığı raporları fırsat buldukça takip ederim ama "Barajın altında kalan öğrenci ise meslek liselerine yönlendirilecek. " ibaresini kavramış değilim. Hayır puanı düşüklerin yeri değildir o okullar. O okullar ben arabalarla uğraşacağım ben kuaför olmak istiyorum, marangozluk yapmak istiyorum diyen bireylerin kendini yetiştirecekleri yerlerdir. Meslek liseleri düşük puan alanların gitmek zorunda oldukları ara eleman değil nitelikli eleman yetiştiren eğitim kurumları olmalıdır.

Meslek liseleri kisinin kendini her anlamda gelistirebilecegi, mesleki "craft" egitimini alabilecegi ve ozellikle en etkili "yaparak ogrenme" modellerinin uygulanabilecegi ortamlar olarak gorulmeli.

    Sinem, ben de meslek lisesi mezunu olarak hocama katılıyorum. Öğrencilerin ileride yapmak istedikleri mesleklerle ilgili lisede ön bilgileri edinmiş olmaları gerekiyor. Ben de lisede bilgisayar bölümündeydim, fakat o zamanki katsayı uygulamasından dolayı bilgisayar ile ilgili sadece bilgisayar öğretmenliğini seçme hakkımız vardı. Bir nevi bizim şu an savunduğumuz "kişi ön bilgileri lisede almalıdır" mantığını biraz eksik bir biçimde, kişiyi bilgisayarla ilgili tek bir bölüme yönlendirerek uyguluyorlardı. Lisede elektronik, devreler, entegreler, boolean matematiği alan kişiler tek bir bölüme yönlendirilirken, bilgisayar dünyasıyla pek haşır neşir olmayan birisi polinom fonksiyon havuz problemleri eşliğinde bilgisayar mühendisliğine kayıt yaptırabiliyordu. Meslek liselerinin bu şekilde değersizleştirilmesiyle birlikte, o okulda okuyanlar okulun ilk gününden itibaren hem kişisel hem de toplumsal baskı hissedebiliyorlardı. Fakat meslek liselerini daha kaliteli hale getirmek de maddi anlamda desteği gerektiriyor. Çünkü araçlar pahalı ve piyasa ihtiyaçlarından dolayı sürekli güncellenmeleri gerekiyor. Ayrıca son zamanlardaki bilgi sirkülasyonu meslek liselerinde okuyanlar dahil kendini yenileyebilen, piyasa ihtiyaçlarına göre kendini geliştirebilen ve değiştirebilen "yaşam boyu öğrenici" lere ihtiyaç duymaya başladı. Bu da meslek liselerinin işleyişini değiştirmeli. Sadece meslek liselerinin sunduğu belli başlı yetilere sahip, yine sadece belli başlı makineleri ya da araçları kullanmayı bilen iş gücü artık piyasaya yetmiyor, bu kişiler yaşam boyu öğreniciler olmazlarsa bir süre sonra iş gücünün dışında kalıyorlar. Bunun çözümünün ise yerelleştirilmiş meslek liselerinin kurulması, meslek liselerinin bölgenin özellikleri ve ihtiyaçları doğrultusunda planlanması, öğrencilere ise yenilikçi olma, problem çözme ve eleştirel düşünme gibi

    Dincer, interesting! While I am in favor of open education and massive open online courses, I recently started thinking about the cultural and social impact of such initiatives. For instance, the Moocs are recently being offered from the west because we assume or accept that they have the high quality content and courses. One might say that this could cause a kind of cultural imperialism, countries importing ideas from the west that may not necessarily fit to their context.
