Thank you Hatice, I will be more open to articles that are telling the stories behind the theories, approaches and even philosophies.
  •
Thanks for sharing Hatice. This is a good one and from our own Faculty of Education. Put that in my reading list.

Bad Examples of Behaviorism - 0 views

  • I once visited a Spanish classroom in a High School where I observed one of the most ineffective uses of a “Token Economy” that I had ever seen. In this case, students were so concerned with getting their “Pesos” that they lost all interest in the topic (which was suppsedly why they were getting them in the first place). The teacher himself spent large portions of class time debating with the students over whether or not they deserved “Pesos”.

A text that I found while searching for something else. It was fun to read it.

The Chorus (2004) - FILM - 0 views

  •
Dear friends, I strongly recommend you to watch this film. It is about a school (like hababam sınıfı). You will see different approaches against students. Examples of radical behaviorism and in part constructivism can be found. It will be enjoying to watch and contrast these two approaches. Besides educational aspects, this film is so touching. Please, prepare your handkerchiefs :) Original language: French Subtitle: English Link to watch: http://filenuke.com/ulgl9j1ux08p (click to "free" option)

9 essential books for grad school (and beyond) in Education - 2 views

  •
"a small library of nine valuable books that will help Ph.D. students do serious work-as well as helping supervisors do a solid job in supervising… These books can help to teach and develop good research habits, habits of mind and habits of behavior."
  •
Dincer, I am glad you shared these resources here. They definitely help grad students to make this challenging journey an enjoyable one. I plan to give a workshop on "how to survive in graduate school" in the near future if I manage to find some time to do so.
  •
I'll be the first one to join that workshop :)

Whole brain teaching - 3 views

when ı watch this video, I realised that in little age we can create learning enviroment without losing motivation and active participation. You can find also kindergarten or higher level version of this video on youtube. Behaviorism signs can be seen in it. Because repetition of whole sentences is the learning way for this classroom. Thıs seems to be effective but another issue is the permanence of knowledge. I hope it is permanent that it seems very enjoyful class.
  •
I also appreciate the class environment used in the video. Gestures, repetitions, practice on their own in pairs, materials were collaboratively used, which is very nice and especially very beneficiary for the 1. grade.

Thanks for sharing. I made several Piagetian experiment to my 2 year old cousin and since she was in preoperational stage, she could not answer them correctly:), Yengem was offended since she thought that her daughter was not smart enough, and my aim was to show that. I told about the theory and now she knows about Piaget too, that's science:).
  •
Your are lucky, erdem. You can apply this theory in your cousin's life. When I was watching television during this holiday, I realised that a program gives information about how parents act their children according to their age. They were using the same theory and also behaviorism. They use reinforcement and punishment, token economy, and especially time out method. After our behaiviorism section, I realised that I can elaborate this program according to the knowledge. So parents may be aware of their child's development after this programme and us. Why not? :)
  •
It is really weird to watch the reasonings and answers although we read that they are so. I was surprised once again.
  •
Yes hatice, actually I can go on applying the theory to my cousin by hiding it from Yengem, it is unethical I know:). May be I should wait until I have my own children. I can give permission myself to apply Piaget's theory to my children, no problem:), I agree saime, in one ofthe video a little girl was shown a simple triangle and was asked to draw exactly what she saw, and she drew a different sketch and showed the corners of her triangle that was completely in different places. It was in the video that Evrim Hoca posted to Diigo, I guess.
