NBC's Silverman: Broadcast to Be Event-Driven : In Depth : TVWeek - Television Industry... - 0 views

This article contains a good example of Ben Silverman's strategy at NBC. He was heralded for his ability to to create a web presence for his popular primetime comedies. NBC has had successes in producing crossover content (The Office and SNL) but they have also had failures (Kathy and Kim, mentioned in the article). Overall this a good example of the extendable strategy.

Boxee Sits Comfortably Atop the Media Center Hill - 0 views

  •
Blog post about a media center that may forever change the way we consume media. "Boxee is a media center for the age of broadband and social networking. It doesn't just play media stored on your computer; it indexes hundreds (possibly thousands) of streaming videos from, amongst others: ABC, NBC, Comedy Central, and (thanks to a little browser-based trickery) Hulu. It's also a platform for widgets and apps that can pull in additional content from services like Pandora, Netflix, and MLB.TV. Plus, like any piece of software worth its digital weight in bytes, Boxee integrates with social networks like Twitter and Facebook for sharing what your watching with others."

Op-Ed Columnist - The Biggest Loser - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • Zucker’s critics are ranting that first he killed comedy, losing the NBC franchise of Thursday night “Must See TV,” where “Seinfeld,” “Friends” and “Will & Grace” once hilariously reigned; then he killed drama, failing to develop successors to the formidable “ER,” “West Wing,” and “Law & Order”; then he killed the 10 o’clock hour by putting Jay Leno on at a time when people expect to be told a story; and then he killed late night by putting on a quirky redhead who did not have the bland mass-market appeal of Leno and who couldn’t compete with the peerless late-night comedian NBC had stupidly lost 16 years ago, David Letterman.
