"Taiwanese regulator the National Communications Commission (NCC) has revised its mobile TV licensing plans, announcing that, contrary to its previous announcement, only one concession will be awarded in 2010. As reported by CommsUpdate on 18 January 2010, the NCC revealed that it planned to award two operators concessions for mobile TV services, allocating each licensee 6MHz in the 600MHz frequency band across which it will deliver 18-20 programme channels using either the Qualcomm-developed MediaFLO or DVB-H as its mobile TV standard."

"When AT&T debuted its Mobile TV service with FLO in May 2008, the carrier touted the fact that it had "exclusive" rights to CNN Mobile as provided through the Qualcomm unit. In other words, the channel was unavailable to subscribers of Verizon Wireless, which also offers a mobile TV service provided by FLO."

"On average, viewers watch FLO TV for 30 minutes a day while commuting, sitting at their desks, or waiting in line. The service is available in more than 100 U.S. cities now."

"Just 30 or so of the nation's 1,600 digital TV stations are equipped to broadcast M-DTV. The upgrade requires a "relatively modest," $100,000 investment, said Arland. He believes 2010 will see 'many stations jumping on board . . . It's been a 'chicken or egg' thing. They're just waiting for the hardware to come out.'"
