The Teacher's Guide To Using Posterous Spaces - Edudemic - 6 views

  •
It's important to be aware of the latest education technology out there. So let's say you want to have your students have a personalized blog that reflects their likes, dislikes and style. Where do you turn? There's Facebook (too regimented and big), Tumblr (a good option but can be pricey for premium themes), WordPress.com (also good but can be a bit complicated for non-tech-savvy users) and many others. But there's one relatively new service that you should know about.

social network based on needs, including for information
  •
interesting application ~ part of the learning experience would have to be about evaluating information and sources, something students (and most internet users, including the self-styled savvy) need to learn
  •
    Saw this on jog blog:

Affiliations allow you to connect a group of users together so that you can easily see who a person is affiliated with as well as find needs from other people who share something in common with you. For instance, if you're part of the "Des Moines Surf Club" affiliation, you can proudly show off your association to other Jig users, as well as see what others in the DMSC are posting on Jig.

For now, only Jig Staff can create new affiliations. If you'd like an affiliation for a group that you're a part of, send an email to feedback@jig.com with the following information:

Name (20 characters or less); 16×16 icon to represent your affiliation; Public or private visibility (icons for private affiliations are not visible to users outside the affiliation); expected number of members

    even mentions my article :-)

Posterous group may improve but has been a disappoints and less user friendly than regular Posterous. Rather than use group, I'd create two pages, one open and one closed except to multiple contributors.

Create timelines, share them on the web | Timetoast timelines - 3 views

  •
I'm already thinking of ways and places to use this ~ so much better to create a time line than let Fb do it for you.

PS my apologies for not commenting more.

Diigo would be a good tool discussing / commenting on assigned readings or building a discussion question around a link. Students could create reading discussion posts, mini research / presentation project, and then moderate.

Browser plugin -- Capture the whole page or any portion, annotate it with rectangles, circles, arrows, lines and text, one-click upload to share.
  •
Cool annotator. You can also find the same tool in the Diigo toolbar. If you use it from the toolbar, saving it to Diigo becomes much easier. If you use the awesome annotator, then you can save it to your desktop.

Load a link to a YouTube and it will play it in a plain player, generating its own url -- good for the classroom!

interesting tool, although I didn't find the way to extract the "embed" code
  •
I don't think it would have an embed code, since the idea is to create a surrounding screen that prevents ads and such. Could be wrong, tho.
