MaRS Discovery District announced  substantial funding support from the Rockefeller Foundation and the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation will be made available for the Centre for Impact Investing, to be housed at MaRS. As stated by Toronto Star reporter, John Terauds, "impact investing weighs the social goals and benefits of an investment alongside financial returns, usually over a long term."

Amoryn Engel stated "Galen and Hilary Weston celebrated our country's next generation of high impact entrepreneurs through a new and innovative program, The Next 36." Ilse Treurnicht, CEO MaRS Discovery District was in attendance.

MaRS Discovery District  announced that its Phase II construction and it is expected to be completed by 2013.

Skymeter Corp., an upstart technology firm that has developed smart meter devices that use global positioning system technology to pinpoint the exact location of vehicles.the Skymeter technology is available only in Winnipeg, where the municipality's parking authority is testing it. The new system is expected to be implemented citywide by the fall of 2010, making it the first jurisdiction in the world to use the park-and-walk-away Skymeter. Nov 18, 2009

Skymeter Corp eveloped a technology that uses GPS to trigger a small electronic meter fitted to the car and automatically sends the charges to the driver's account. The concept of charging works the same as automatic toll-road systems, which many people are already familiar with. Seneca College awarded $2.3 million in federal research funding to improve aviation education in Canada.DeckChair Learning Systems, an online learning company, will provide e-learning and assessment technology to Seneca's renowned School of Aviation and Flight Technology research team. DLVR Therapeutics Inc. ("DLVR") - a privately-held biotechnology company announced it completed its seed round investment. University Health Network (UHN) and the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) are investors in the company.

MaRS Discovery has a new exhibit called Insulin: Toronto's Gift to the World.The exhibit is a joint effort of the Faculty of Medicine, the MaRS Discovery commercialization initiative and the University Health Network, a group of U of T teaching hospitals.
