Ships churning through the Atlantic Ocean produced this patchwork of bright, criss-crossing cloud trails off the coast of Portugal and Spain. The narrow clouds, known as ship tracks, form when water vapor condenses around tiny particles of pollution that ships emit as exhaust or that form from gases in the exhaust. Ship tracks typically form in areas where low-lying stratus and cumulus clouds are present.
Total signed a pioneering agreement to charter its first two LNG-powered VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carrier). The two vessels, which are able to carry about 300,000 tons of crude oil each, will be delivered in 2022 and will join the time-chartered fleet of Total. These VLCCs will be chartered from Malaysian shipowner AET.
The technology group Wärtsilä is to deliver its new Decarbonisation Modelling Service to Carnival Corporation as the cruise group aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its fleet. Initially tasked with establishing an optimal decarbonisation path for the cruise ship 'Regal Princess', the project will expand to model solutions which could be applied to the entire Carnival fleet. The contract was signed in December 2021 and the project commenced in February 2022.
Jan DE NUL Group joins forces with Seiche Ltd to start trials for the development of an automated marine mammal detection system on board of its vessels. To this purpose, Seiche's visual and thermal cameras have been installed on board the vessel Adhémar de Saint-Venant currently working in the Netherlands. A collaboration agreement to start this innovative pilot project with Seiche's new second-generation HD thermal cameras was signed in May 2021. The first camera trials will be used to optimize the A.I software for future use on projects.
