Ruffini Published on Tuesday, September 27, 20110 Comments Classroom Collaboration Using Social Bookmarking Service Diigo By Michael F. Ruffini * Social bookmarking websites enhance and improve the learning experience by encouraging group collaboration and making organizing and saving web resources faster and easier for students. * Social bookmarking services offer greater scope for research, integration, and collaboration compared to the more traditional bookmarking applications such as browsers, which offer limited functionality. * Among social bookmarking services, Diigo has features and functions that make it useful for the classroom, giving instructors tools for setting up groups of students, highlighting key information, and commenting. Classroom collaboration is an area that benefits directly from today's Internet experience in that students can develop their potential for learning by becoming more actively involved. While the NBN brings the promise of greater capacity and download speeds, the backers of the multi-billion network are pushing the vision that it will propel us into an era that goes beyond faster movie downloads. One of the most commonly used examples is video-conferencing.

Educational Networking - home - 0 views

  • "Educational Networking" is the use of social networking technologies for educational purposes. Because the phrase "social networking" can carry some negative connotations for educators, the phrase "educational networking" may be a way of more objectively discussing the pedagogical value of these tools. The original URL for this site (http://socialnetworksined.wikispaces.com) still works, but http://www.EducationalNetworking.com is now the main URL. The page to list or find a social network devoted to education is here and in the navigation to the left. Also in the navigation are the page for keeping track of articles and blog posts which discuss educational networking, links to discussions on this topic, and pages which could be used for video and podcast tracking.

The education sub-reddit. I'm not sure how many people use reddit, but I find myself spending hours upon hours a day getting lost in all the stuff that people put up there. Reddit is another social bookmarking site, and in particular this page is devoted to eduation, with people linking a bunch of articles/videos etc.

Students from Anna Bay Public School in NSW using an interactive whiteboard in their classroom. Forget the chalk dust, the dog eared textbooks, even the more modern DVD player. Today's school students are downloading homework on iTunes, listening to lessons via podcasts, communicating with other students all over the world through social networking sites, and even video conferencing with leaders of business and industry.
