This is a very brief teacher reference sheet reviewing Wong's First Days of School. Good refresher that highlights some things to think about when planning for the first week.

There were some great ideas listed on this blog, but the one that I liked best was the classroom cool down spot. Even though the student needs to be separated, it is not seen as a bad thing like a time out. And students actually have something to do when they are here instead of just sitting in a corner by themselves.

These are laminated cards that teachers put on a ring for students to keep on or in their desk during the beginning of school. If students forget the new classroom procedures they can reference these cards. I think it's a good way for students to be able to look for an answer, rather than always having to ask the teacher.

This is an activity in which students can get to know you better, as well as each other. It allows students to be creative, as well as providing them the chance to talk about themselves. I think it makes students more comfortable talking to the class when they have something from home to share.

This is a board or poster that tells the students how they are going to be working, whether it's independently, in groups, or individually. This will help keep consistency in the classroom because students will always know to look at the board if they want to know how they are working/ learning today. The colors help keep the poster organized and easy to read.

A board that has a class calendar, as well as folder that contain the work from the day is a great way to keep the classroom organized, as well as make sure students are responsible for getting their own work. If students know where things are in the classroom, they don't always have to be asking the teacher. This board is a great idea!

Based on the reading of this chapter this book seems to have a lot of great tips, techniques, and strategies for teachers! This section talked about effective classroom management, and it specifically addresses things such as rules and routines. It's not the most colorful reading but very informational!

This article is great because it is written from the perspective of a teacher. It is not an author who is simply telling you good behavior management practices, but instead speaks about their own personal experiences and how these strategies worked in their classroom.
