LMSs use this to create bingo cards for book fair. They use book titles from the Scholastic brochure given to students. Each homeroom teacher (in elem. I would give to each teacher) gets a bingo card. I read 2 or 3 titles each day of book fair over the morning announcements. Teacher/class with winning card get a book for the classroom and a doughnut for breakfast.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts free online art history texts. It has expanded to 390 volumes. All of the books can be read online or downloaded as PDFs (warning, some of them are massive files). You can search through the catalog of books by thematic category, format, and publication type. And, of course, you can search through the books by title, author, and keyword.

Goodreads is a privately run "social cataloging" website started in December 2006 by Otis Chandler, a software engineer and entrepreneur. The website permits individuals to sign up and register books to create their library catalogs and reading lists. It also allows users to create their own groups of book suggestions and discussions. In December 2007, the site had over 650,000 members and over 10,000,000 books added. As of July 2012, the site reported 10 million members, 20 million monthly visits, and 30 employees.

The Digital Public Library of America is a huge collection of digitized artifacts and exhibits from museums and libraries across the United States. Through the DPLA you can find documents, books, images, audio recordings, and video clips. The DPLA is a new resource and only some of the artifacts are arranged into exhibits at this point. You can look for artifacts by location, time, or keyword search. Clicking on an artifact will open information about where it is housed and when it was created.

Juvenile Series and Sequels - This database contains over 36,000 books in 4,900 series titles that are classified into three audiences: Juvenile Easy, Juvenile, and Young Adult.

The teacher selects a story start or inserts his or her own first chapter, and the students use their skills, knowledge and creativity to forward the piece. One chapter at a time, the students write, read, and then vote on the submissions they like the most. The winning submission is added to the piece and the process continues. The teacher determines the total number of chapters to be completed, and when the competition is over a new book is ready to be published.
