Great website that could be used with kids to help teach the process involved in writing and publishing a story.

Although I haven't viewed all the videos, I thought you would find this interesting.

OMG--is this for real? Save the picture book. I can't believe the mom from San Antonio. Does she really wonder why her six year old is "reluctant?" This is mind boggling. What is our test culture doing to reading?

That article was very upsetting! Last year in third grade, I had a parent who saw that their child's book box contained both chapter books and picture books. She was appalled by the picture books and told her child she needed to put them back. Parents need to be more educated on the amazing benefits of pictures, such as the vocabulary, mental images, etc. It is absolutely absurd for a 5 year to be reading chapter books!! Give them something to build up to. Is this all from the testing? Very sad if it is...

Hear ye! Hear ye! Did you know that TC is now allowing people to purchase tickets to their calendar days! Wow! This is new and they are relatively inexpensive--$50 for the day.

A moving tribute to Donald Graves who died on Tuesday, Sept 28, age 80 from complications from pneumonia. My own teaching is deeply infused with his teaching and ideals. This is a true loss to the literacy community.

Reminds me a lot of what Kelly Gallagher said in Readicide. Bottom line--our bad practices do get in the way of building children into readers.
