Flipping the Class for Active Learning - Teaching Excellence & Educational Innovation -... - 0 views

  • n a "Flipped Classroom," students' initial exposure to content is shifted outside of the classroom via readings, instructional videos, individual or collaborative activities, or a combination of these. Then during class, rather than lecturing, all or a significant portion of the time is used for practice, application exercises, discussion-based activities, team-based learning, or other active learning techniques. Some preliminary assessment, such as an online quiz or brief assignment, may be used to gauge student understanding and tailor instructional plans prior to class.

Benefits of Technology in the Classroom - 0 views

  • Educators, too, have seen firsthand the benefits of technology in the classroom. According to a study by IT Trade Association CompTIA just released this month, around 75 percent of educators think that technology has a positive impact in the education process. Educators also recognize the importance of developing these technological skills in students so they will be prepared to enter the workforce once they complete their schooling.

How do you use technology in your classroom? < Teaching Channel - 0 views

  • I have an iMac and a 40" Samsung tv and teach elementary music. No textbooks, so I use Keynote and Quicktime to present songs and lessons I develop. I use a Gig-Easy mount and old mic stand to hold my personal iPad so students can safely use it. This is more limiting than an interactive whiteboard...I'm hoping to get a SmartBoard and a document camera eventually..but it does allow students to personally access technology. I mirror to the TV so all can see what is being done. I have been using the espresso education website for about three years. I am using Sokikom for behavior management and to support math (aligned to the CC) .. student's using the games outside of music. Garageband- to record and edit. I teach many classes and have to take a new role every 45 minutes, so I use Teacherkit (on iPad) for attendance and seating charts. We put in grades on WebPams. I use DropBox to share with other teachers and to move things from my home MacBookPro to my iMac.

Abraham Lincoln - U.S. Presidents - HISTORY.com - 0 views

  •
Abraham Lincoln, a self-taught Illinois lawyer and legislator with a reputation as an eloquent opponent of slavery, shocked many when he overcame several more prominent contenders to win the Republican Party's nomination for president in 1860. His election that November pushed several Southern states to secede by the time of his inauguration in March 1861, and the Civil War began barely a month later.
