Sample Philosophy Statements - 0 views

  • I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially.
  • When the teacher's role is to guide, providing access to information rather than acting as the primary source of information, the students' search for knowledge is met as they learn to find answers to their questions.
  • Developing a curriculum around student interests fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn.

  • hen students have ownership in the curriculum, they are motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to reach their goals.
  • In setting fair and consistent rules initially and stating the importance of every activity, students are shown respect for their presence and time. In turn they learn to respect themselves, others, and their environment.
  • Teaching is a lifelong learning process of learning about new philosophies and new strategies, learning from the parents and community, learning from colleagues, and especially learning from the children. Children have taught me to open my mind and my heart to the joys, the innocence, and the diversity of ideas in the world. Because of this, I will never forget how to smile with the new, cherish the old, and laugh with the children.
  • I will help children to develop their potential by believing in them as capable individuals. I will assist children in discovering who they are, so they can express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas.
  • My role as a teacher is to give children the tools with which to cultivate their own gardens of knowledge.
  • will allow children to become responsible members of our classroom community by using strategies such as class meetings, positive discipline, and democratic principles.
  • One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them.
  • g and active members o
  • To accomplish this goal, I will teach to the needs of each child so that all learners can feel capable and successful. I will present curriculum that involves the interests of the children and makes learning relevant to life.

This is something we are discussing in my other education classes. I think it is important to be open minded and see other people's views while finding my own.

Five Ways To Bring Technology into the Classroom Without the Gadgets | Alisa ... - 0 views

  • 6. By now you're probably feeling like there is not enough time to "cover" everything you want your students to learn. As you look at the standards, your school's requirements, etc., think about how each type of content and concept could be learned in the most efficient way. For example, if students need to learn the parts of the cell, can they practice this using an app or software? When they need to experience and discuss how cells are transformed during the process of osmosis, they will most likely need a hands-on experience or a discussion. What content can be delivered and assessed online?
  • . Get clear about what your community needs and values. What do you want for your graduates (whether they leave you in 5th, 8th or 12th grade)? Try to avoid the trap of doing what's always been done -- this is a different time and world from when you were in school (or likely even in college). What skills do students really need for success in today's (and tomorrow's) world? Their time at school is too valuable to focus on anything that doesn't help them develop those skills and doesn't underscore the value of play, failure and hands-on experiences (activities that are often seen as less "rigorous" or less "college prep"). Once you have determined what you value for your students, it is easy to avoid the trap of products that promise instant results or boxed solutions. For us, having our students engage in real-world learning experiences is a priority, so we utilized technologies like video-conferencing that enabled making those connections.

Classroom Technology That Every Teacher Needs - 0 views

  • The following five technological tools are must haves for the classroom of today. Each tool provides teachers with a method in which they can actively engage their students in the learning process.
  • The Internet -
  • It provides information both beneficial and detrimental to students with easier access than ever with a simple click. The information available to students online is vast.
  • ...11 more annotations...
  • LCD Projector
  • allows a teacher the opportunity to share activities, videos, Power Point presentations, etc. from their computer with the whole class.
  • Document Camera
  • You simply put the document you want to show your students under the camera, and it is shot up on the screen through your LCD projector. Once it is up on the screen you can use the camera to take a screen shot of the document and save it directly to your computer for later or just use the live version. A document camera also allows you to place diagrams, charts, textbooks , etc. on a large screen so that all your students can see the images, passages, etc. at one time.
  • Smart Board
  • Teachers can create engaging, active lessons using the many tools
  • They can transpose diagrams, charts, and templates, have students come up and actively participate in the lesson, and then print anything such as notes that were completed on a particular day and given to students as a handout
  • students are enthusiastic
  • Digital Camera
  • engage students in the learning process.
  • Teachers who use this technology find that students will work hard to learn because they enjoy the interaction with the camera and the fact that it is a different style of teaching and learning.

Education World: Managing Technology: Tips from the Experts - 0 views

  • 1. Always run through a technology lesson before presenting it to the class -- and always have a back-up lesson prepared in case the technology fails.
  • 8. Make it a class rule that students can help one another but cannot ever touch another student's computer. That way, you can be sure that learning occurs even when students help one another.
  • 10. Keep a red plastic cup at each computer. When students need help, have them place the highly visible cups on top of their monitors.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • 14. Post a list of all your rules for technology use in a visible place. When a rule is broken, ask the offending student to read the rule aloud.
  • 16. Attach plastic hooks to monitors to hang headphones on when they're not being used.
  • 20. Type PLEASE WAIT FOR INSTRUCTIONS on 8 by 11 papers, laminate them, and tape one sheet to the top of every monitor. Students flip the signs to the back of the monitor after you've given directions.
