If you are trying to create a personal budget, a good place to start is our free personal budget spreadsheet template in Excel, which you can download below. Creating a budget spreadsheet was one of the first things I ever used Microsoft Excel for. Although I am an avid Quicken user now, I still use Excel when I work with my budget. NSTA :: Outstanding Science Trade Books for Students K-12 - 0 views

  •
"Reading science trade books is the perfect way for students to build literacy skills while learning science content. The books that appear in these lists were selected as outstanding children's science trade books. They were chosen by a book review panel appointed by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and assembled in cooperation with the Children's Book Council (CBC). NSTA and CBC have joined forces on this bibliographic project since 1973, when the list was known as Outstanding Science Trade Books for Children and was primarily targeted at grades K through 8. Beginning in 2002, the list has been expanded to include high school as well. Now, we've updated the lists again, this time to include links to activities that complement each selection. And if you're looking for a list of the books, we now link directly to NSTA Recommends, where you can find a list of the last 10 year's worth of winners and generate an Excel file of your favorites. YALSA's six literary awards honor the best books for teens each year with its Alex, Edwards, Morris, Nonfiction, Odyssey, and Printz awards. In addition, YALSA publishes selected booklists each year, which offer recommended titles for both the avid and reluctant teen reader. Both the awards and booklists highlight great books for teens. Copyright Awareness Week - 0 views

  •
"The goal of this event is to encourage teachers from all subject areas to teach students basic concepts about copyright during Copyright Awareness Week. We hope that through this understanding, students will be more appreciative of the efforts of creative people and the protections the law affords them. Many people are avid users of copyrighted materials such as music, film, books, magazines, art and photographs, but they have little or no understanding about how these works are protected or why our forefathers felt copyright protections should be included in our constitution. We hope that you will enjoy learning about this important subject and that you will encourage other students, teachers and parents to engage in the study of copyright during Copyright Awareness Week. We are always looking for new ideas to share with other teachers and students. Please email us and let us know what your class studied during Copyright Awareness Week. You may contact us with this information or any questions you might have regarding Copyright Awareness Week at Contact the CSUSA Office. We hope your study leads you to a greater understanding and appreciation for creators and their creations. "

Then they have a good reason to act on what they have learned. Just as the Fourth of July reminds us to love our country, Earth Day reminds us to love and care for the Earth and our fellow creatures. huglobe If every neighborhood lived in harmony with nature, most of our environmental problems would be gone. Exhibits Collection -- Garbage - 0 views

  •
"If your habits resemble those of average Americans, you generate about 4.6 pounds of solid trash per day. This adds up to big trouble for the environment. Americans are generating waste products faster than nature can break them down and using up resources faster than they can be replaced. How can we find ways to meet our current economic and social needs without compromising the ability of our children, and our children's children, to do the same? Our success will depend on understanding the difference between * Sustainable practices: practices that provide ongoing economic and social benefits without degrading the environment. * Unsustainable practices: "quick fixes" that fill an immediate need for resources. Over time, however, these practices deplete or damage natural resources so they cannot be used or enjoyed by future generations. In this exhibit, you can find out how to improve next year's environmental record. You'll learn how waste is handled now and how some communities are doing it better. In the activities, you can test your knowledge about hazardous waste we generate in our homes and try to shrink a landfill. "

Fair Use Explanation - 0 views

  •
Fair use is one of the exceptions in copyright which allows use of copyrighted materials without obtaining permission as long as the use can be considered fair. There is a four-factor analysis which must be applied to each use to determine whether the use is fair. Each factor is given equal weight. The goal is to achieve a balance between the rights of the copyright holder with the rights of the public. Fair use is also technologically neutral so the same analysis may be applied to any medium.
