A literacy strategy that is sometimes overlooked due to its' simplicity. However, it is a strategy that should be employed more often in order to help show students what they know versus what they do not know in a text. Extremely useful in foreign language texts when students highlight known words in order to make a text less intimidating before processing the main idea of the text.
