The Ten Tools were designed to provide teachers with a 'route' into the exploration of film and moving image in the classroom. They were assembled especially with inexperienced or beginner teachers in mind, and there is a deliberate attempt to avoid technical jargon wherever possible. They are not prescriptive, but rather should be used selectively and in combinations to suit the teacher and the learners. Each of the Ten Tools is accompanied by a list of potential discussion questions and typical activities. With practice, the teacher should come to know which of them will work best with any particular film text.

Visual literacy can be incorporated into activities with students of nearly any age, from emergent readers to teens. Below are some ideas to spark your imagination, including a real sample program from Champaign Public Library, plus links to resources to guide you as you develop a program suited for your own community or library.

The Information Literacy Section of the International Federation of Library Association and Institutions ( IFLA) has created this database to record information literacy materials from different parts of the world, on behalf of UNESCO. Librarians, educators and information professionals are invited to participate. If you have developed information literacy materials and would like to share them with the world community, please submit the required data.

101 Digital Tools for the 21st Century Classroom Just what we need, another 101 list. This is the part where I attempt to convince you that this one is different. Friend and colleague Kyle Wood (@jkylewood) and I wanted to make a different kind of list, a list not just of tools people mentioned on twitter or we saw on wikis, but a list of solid educational tools that we have personally tested in an actual educational setting!
