The automotive engine cam phaser is a sensor device whose main function is to collect the position signals of the air distribution camshaft and input these signals into the electronic control unit (ECU). By means of these signals, the ECU is able to identify the position of the upper compression stop of cylinder 1, thereby enabling sequential injection control, ignition timing control, and deflagration control of the engine. In addition, the signals from the camshaft phaser are used to recognise the first ignition moment at engine start to ensure that the engine can be started smoothly.
