MultiBrief: Effectively incorporating technology with English learners - 2 views

  • Perhaps the first consideration is the instructional purpose of the lesson, and how the technology will enhance that purpose or help students to achieve the goals and objectives of the lesson.
  • Technology, as mentioned earlier, has the power to increase student knowledge and skills in various content areas. Yet another consideration that must be taken into account when working with English learners is how the technology is increasing academic language knowledge and skills. It is critical, then, that teachers take into account not only the content goals and objectives for the lesson, but also the language goals and objectives as well as the linguistic demand of the tasks students will need to accomplish in the classroom.
  • English learners need additional instructional supports or scaffolds, including providing students with necessary background knowledge that other students may possess, using graphic organizers, pictures/visuals, demonstrations and realia, and providing redundant information and differentiated instruction based on students' language proficiency level. When researching various technology tools, it is critical that we investigate how the tool addresses these principles.

  • The use of technology in the classroom is quickly becoming not only commonplace, but also essential for helping students gain the 21st-century skills they will need to be successful in the future.
  • when implementing technology in the classroom, an important component of instruction is to teach students how to use technology effectively and responsibly. Students may need guidance and instruction on how to use technology appropriately given the task and learning at hand, how to avoid distractions with technology, and how to effectively navigate the digital world.

The History of Islam - A Complete Overview (Chapter # 1) - 0 views

  •
Before going to look at the history of Islam, it would be a good idea to first have a quick look upon the pre Islamic era and particularly the condition of Arab world before the arrival of Islam. Before the advent of Islam in Arab, the ignorance was very common in Arab. There was no concept of education in Arab, people use to bury their daughters alive, and idol worship was common, people of Arab used to worship more than 365 idols. Vulgarism and drinking habits were their common attributes. So, now you can well imagine the whole condition of Arabs before the advent of Islam. But just after the advent of Islam, the Arabs experience socio, political economic revolution. First let us have look upon the immediate consequences after the advent of Islam in Arab world, these immediate consequences started showing during the life of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him). Islam gave the system of Adal (justice) due to which the level of crime significantly reduced. Before Islam it was common to observe killing, adultery, rape and theft and other such issues. Due to the justice system of Islam all such crimes rapidly reduced. Similarly, Islam gave respect and honor to women who were humiliated and suppressed before the arrival of Islam. Islam made it compulsory for every Muslim to get educated. During the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the centers of Islam were the holy cities of Madina and Makkah. However, after the prophet Islam started to spread outside the Arabia as well. We can divide the post prophet (peace be upon him) era into three categories that are the era of 4 caliphs of Islam namely Abu Bakar (R.A), Umar (R.A), Usman ( R.A) as well as Ali (R.A), the era of Umayyad and Abbasid dynasty and the era afterwards. Each era has a number of distinctive features that we would discuss latter. Here it is worthwhile to mention that the eras of Abu Bakar (R.A), Umar (R.A), Usman (R.A) and Ali (R.A) were purely based upon the principles of Khilafah and all

FAQs-III: Groupwork in distance learning (Felder & Brent, 2001) - 3 views

  •
"Even in traditional classes students may do little or no work but get the same grade as their more industrious colleagues, and serious conflicts may arise between teammates with varying levels of ability and senses of responsibility. The problems may be even worse when groups are virtual and don't have the self-regulating capability provided by face-to-face meetings. It is therefore particularly important in distance classes to adhere to the defining principles of cooperative learning, especially positive interdependence (if anyone fails to do his or her part everyone loses in some way), individual accountability (all team members are held accountable for all the material in the assignment), and regular self-assessment of team functioning."

He gives a set of mantras for teacher/leaders in any online community: all you need is love control the environment, not the group lead by example let lurkers lurk short leading questions get conversations going be personally congratulatory and inquisitive route information in all directions care about the people in the community; this cannot be faked understand consensus and how to build it, and sense when it's been built and just not recognised, and when you have to make a decision despite all the talking.
