I watched it before and when I watched Nintendo Wii come to my mind. That changes to habit of game console and I think it is revolutionary. With those applications, maybe our sports habits can change in time.
Actually when i watched it I thought Xbox which recognise you and put you in diffirent games. But Wii also not a bad example. I had a Wii platform but the limitation on that is the equipments which gives you a chance to move without doing the real move because of their calibration, i guess.
This box can be informative and fun AR environment for primary or elementary school students to form topographies and simulate real time water flow in geology and science lessons.
I hated geography lesson when I was in high school and while I see those kinds of application, I wish studying at high school now with those technological tools :) I think it can be really beneficial and also gain creativity of students.
I thought besides making sand castles on the beach, primary or elementary students can play sand to learn topographies and water flow at the same time. And yeah why not, for high school students it can also be fun and beneficial for improving their creativity :)
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's Ted Talk about how the flow term is appeared. Beyond, how he started to deal with psychology and the only aim of him to find an answer to "What makes a life worth living?" He searched an answer at different area and find the best answer at psychology. Although he know nothing about Carl Jung, even he doesn't know the name of him (I am surprised to that); after participating at one of his conference; he affected and started to deal with psychology. Finally, after this studies, he appeared the term, 'flow'.
I like this painting of Dali! Although it can be commented in various ways, we can comment it from the point of view of flow theory like; in the flow moment you don't realize time flies until that moment ends. Thus, I agree with you that it really fits into distortion of sense of time.

That tool (wepresent) is efficient but I think it may not be as user-friendly as like told at the article. Because there will be online platform that you can create your slide and share with your class and it can be more basic inspite of some less possibility.
I hope this is not too basic but I was impressed and surprised to see this area has its own journal. Journal has founded in 2006 and has 43 issues so far, holding more than 200 articles. Journal is peer reviewed and has a high impact factor of 2.692 putting it the 2nd place among educational research journals. I think this success also shows the potentials of the area.
Coursera is one of the best platforms for computer supported collaborative learning. There are numerous classes from the top universities in the world, and the expansion of these classes are run through discussions in class forums. Lots of people get together to create projects and share them with their peers.
First time I watched about these kind of programs and efectiveness in education i had some questionmarks in my mind. Because according to the documentary, it was not as effective as going to school and it was not so much fun to take an online course. That is why drop-outs of school was pretty high at that time. But this looks more effective and more suitable for learning for sure! thanks for sharing!
Although online courses has some disadvantages, that platform is beyond online courses I think because it allow followers interaction instead of just slides or videos.
Also I do not remember the exact details but when that platform was founded, the demand for one course was over the expected and the system was broken. Then, the same lesson began to be given as formal education and at all users who completed the course with 100 points are the ones who take the course online.
Coursera was suggested me to improve my academic speaking skills by my adviser so I have a coursera account :) There are presentations, online courses, online exams and homework etc. Also, you can get a certificate that is valid international after completing the course successfully. Unfortunately, I did not benefit from it because the price of the course was too high, therefore I gave up the course.
It is really impressive TPACK model example that can help students learning geography. By teacher's high CK, students learn similarity and differences between continents and countries. By teacher's high PK, students are seperated groups and they are leaded in order to develop good questions. Also, by teacher's high TK, students are connected to real students in different countries in real time via using techology, so all of the students work collaboratively.
I really liked it. It is fun for students but there is more than that I believe. Because in the process they are comparing other students' clues with what they know, reviewing high amount of their information. For example students at the other side of the skype call knew their friends were not in finland, estonia, latvia, belarus, ukraine, etc (neighbors of russia). But still I think they -maybe implicitly- learnt these countries are russia's neighbors. Still, I would love to examine their geography scores to be sure about this method's efficiency.

I find it interesting that although this is a 31-year-old document, ideas about teaching is quite up-to-date. Article contains ideas on the aim of the mathematical education which is to nurture problem solving skills and suggests softwares should be harmonious with this fact instead of drill and practice softwares.
In the example study four teacher participate a program on technology integration that supports science as inquiry teaching. It is a longitudinal study and the data sources are multiple. Ideas for further research are presented.
We try to do this in ELT nowadays: integrating technology into English lessons via Edtech program. However, ours is a bir superficial I think, when I compare with this.
Teachers are the ones we always put blame on!!! They don't prepare students very well for the university entrance exam, they don't implement the curriculum effectively, they resist innovation, changes etc. In Turkey, teaching is mostly a profession of last choice. Losing reputation is not a problem, it is a result. Restoring it can not be done by increase in wages, providing facilities for them etc. When education becomes a prior area for all of us, teacher's reputation will be restored then, I think.
Today Filiz and I had a chance to the attend the Mendeley meeting of library. I am really glad to meet with Mendeley :) I think it will be very helpful for my future studies. Also I have a message for you from library. Until January we have the oppotunity of using institutional version of Mendeley which is more functional than the standard one. If the number of users is sufficient our library may consider prolonging the subscription. In order to use the institutional version of Mendeley you should subscribe with your metu mail adress and when you sign up you have to find the METU group and join it.
Great!!! We will have two library specialists this week in class to talk about library resources and software. We can explore Mendeley together as a group. As far as I remember we can create an online shared resource repository in Mendeley.
The article from International Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education focuses on the hypothesis that an intelligent tutoring system that provides guidance with respect to students'meta-cognitive abilities can help them to become better learners.
I think the research design they follow is detailed, there is development of a model and then validation of it over time. I have checked one of the authors' recent publications and realized that he has researches on self-regulation during learning ,example-tracing tutors, interesting concepts to examine.
I am sharing this video of kid games which are almost forgotten. Remember that as a kid, we used to keep flowed in physical space as well. It seems that for being flowed, computers or online tools are not the basic sources.
I agree..there was fun, cooperation, challege..we were all flowed..too focused to think of time...I'm not sure whether we were cognitively engaged :-), but we had total motivation to do the same things again and again...

This article presents how much CTS improves the abstract reasoning component of word problem solving in Math. Abstract subtests were not as easy as concrete components. It leads me think again of deep learning with CTS. It is really controversial topic.
