WCER : Projects : How Do Instructional Gestures Support Students' Mathematics Learning? - 1 views

  •
There are many different factors investigated affecting students' mathematics learning before in the literature. However I had never read a research project about the instructional gestures supporting learning. It reveals that the gestures have a substantial role in comprehension. The results even shows that some studies triggers the learning even roughly twice.

This is quite interesting. I am curious to hear more about the results of this research.

Design Thinking in Class, Step By Step - 1 views

  •
Here, we try to answer your questions about the different integrating components of a design learning experience into familiar, pre-existing scenarios that play out in every school.
  •
The article mentions key features of LBD from a practical perspective. But, I still have some questions about how to apply LBD effectively in traditional classroom environment while trying to keep up with the requirements of the curricula in practice. The current curricula are assumed to be designed considering the contemporary approaches and methods. But the more I learn about the current improvements in the field the more I question our " current curricula".

Microsoft HoloLens - 0 views

  •
Microsoft HoloLens is the first self-contained, holographic computer, enabling you to engage with your digital content and interact with holograms in the world around you. It is a miraculous device, I think. When watched the video, it is einevitable not to be excited. Its sale is only for app developer and it is also expensive, 3000 $. However, as it become widespread and develop, it may be a routine device. Also there is another video video, shot at Case Western Reserve University, shows doctors examining bodies as they float in midair, creating a new way to teach anatomy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKpKlh1-en0 Think about the time when that device become reachable easily, think about using it at the classes commonly. Maybe changing curriculum according to these or another augmented reality ones. I think, there could be revolution at education with these steps in the future. That pictures are taken from the presentation of that device; http://s01.shiftdelete.net/img/general_b/15-10/06/hololens.jpg http://s01.shiftdelete.net/img/content/15-10/06/hololens-2-1444146365.JPG Also, there is a funny(or sad) photoshop work related to possible usage of device at our country; http://s11.postimg.org/cukj78a4z/holoturk.png

I wasn't sure if this was a legitimate app, but turns out it is! I love it when people collaborate to create projects like this. Reminded me of (although individual) student portfolios of Stanford's LDT master's graduates. Examples can be found here: https://ed.stanford.edu/ldt/students/ma-projects Thank you for sharing this Kutay :)

A nice example of learning by design.
  •
A very good example :-)) I think this supports the idea that projects should have an aim and provide possible solutions to existing problems. As we all know, necessity is the mother of invention. So when we want to engage sts with design activities, we should be realistic and provide them with problems from real life.
