Microsoft HoloLens - 0 views

Microsoft HoloLens is the first self-contained, holographic computer, enabling you to engage with your digital content and interact with holograms in the world around you. It is a miraculous device, I think. When watched the video, it is einevitable not to be excited. Its sale is only for app developer and it is also expensive, 3000 $. However, as it become widespread and develop, it may be a routine device. Also there is another video video, shot at Case Western Reserve University, shows doctors examining bodies as they float in midair, creating a new way to teach anatomy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKpKlh1-en0 Think about the time when that device become reachable easily, think about using it at the classes commonly. Maybe changing curriculum according to these or another augmented reality ones. I think, there could be revolution at education with these steps in the future. That pictures are taken from the presentation of that device; http://s01.shiftdelete.net/img/general_b/15-10/06/hololens.jpg http://s01.shiftdelete.net/img/content/15-10/06/hololens-2-1444146365.JPG Also, there is a funny(or sad) photoshop work related to possible usage of device at our country; http://s11.postimg.org/cukj78a4z/holoturk.png

Early Childhood Education: The Montessori Method - 2 views

  •
I had chance to visit some Montessori early education centers and got impressed by the way children learn. I am really looking forward to hearing your comments on this method.

I also present a brief paper on this method. You can download it clicking on the link below: http://www.williamsburgmontessori.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/The_Montessori_Method.pdf
  •
Whatever they are named, there are many nice ideas-theories of edcation. Montessori method is one of the contemporary ones which seems to present many potentials for the teachers. One point which looks problematic about Montessori in our education sysytem is motivating students to be actively engaged in activities. The question is "Is there a way to connect activities and heavy academic knowledge?". In other words, Can we help our students to get ready for the exams by engaging them in daily activities? My answer is "not really" :(
  •
I liked the school environment too much. As far as I can see from the video, Montessori method engages ownership in learning, self-management and authenticity which I most appreciate in a learning process. The students have the chance to relate what they learn with life with willingness and curiosity. But as İbrahim said, my question is "Can we apply this to our education system?". Our children are in a race from the beginning for a endless examination world. Unfortunately, this is a bit utopia for us. However, I think in kindergarten or pre-school period we can apply this. But for high-school or even primary school I am not sure.

Lessons Learned From Adopting Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning in Oman - 1 views

  •
You can find examples for the adoption of CSCL and its benefits like enhanced course content knowledge, increased confidence in applying course knowledge and skills, stronger collaboration skills (arguing ideas, making decisions, providing solutions), greater ability to create instead of simply consume knowledge and added benefits of leadership and presentation skills

The researchers conducted DBR to develop a CSCL-based course and investigate the students' reaction to this innovation at SQU in Muscat, Oman. It is a nice example of DBR and applying CSCL.
  •
The outcomes: enhanced course content knowledge, increased confidence in applying course knowledge and skills, stronger collaboration skills (arguing ideas, making decisions, providing solutions), greater ability to create instead of simply consume knowledge, and added benefits of leadership and presentation skills, can also be applicable to our case. I think our course equips us with similar skills and outcomes.
  •
Good example of DBR and CSCL.

'Possum Magic': embedding technology in deep learning | Teaching Teachers for the Future - 2 views

  •
A video in which there is an example of how TPACK is used in hands on context in learning of Biology and Maths. Possum magic' demonstrates the key elements of TPACK in a hands-on learning context. Students at Pallara State School in Queensland monitor possum activity using 24 hour surveillance cameras linked to their classroom computers. They learn Science, Biology and Maths content through this project. Pedagogical knowledge, content knowledge and technological knowledge are embedded and integrated in an authentic deep learning collaboration.

Studying mind and brain with fMRI - 0 views

  •
This paper is about functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, a groundbreaking research for learning sciences. It allows learning scientists to understand which brain parts are activated during learning. For example "lateralization of brain" hypothesis (it was saying that one hemisphere is responsible for wholistic-creative learning one is for analytical) is refuted using fMRI. Because both hemispheres were active no matter when people engaged in creative thinking or analytical thinking.

Situated Learning as a Theoretical Framework for Sport Education - 2 views

  •
The article seeks to establish the usefulness of situated learning theory as a means of thinking differently about the alleged abstraction of school learning in a range of subjects including physical education, and the issue of transfer of learning. Following a discussion of Lave and Wenger's notion of situated learning as legitimate peripheral participation in communities of practice, the article explores the potential of Siedentop's sport education model as a means of providing young people with educative and authentic experiences of sport as legitimate peripheral participants. It is concluded that sport education may have the potential to provide educative and authentic experiences of sport.

Open Educational Resources (OER): Resource Roundup - 1 views

  •
OER, a part of the global open content movement, are shared teaching, learning, and research resources available under legally recognized open licenses -- free for people to reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute. Why are OER important? High-quality OER can save teachers significant time and effort on resource development and advance student learning inside and outside the classroom.

Learning by Design - Kids Build - 0 views

  •
In this video kids build their designs and exhibit them, hence their parents could see what their children do, how they learn etc.
  •
In that video, there is a project called Kids Build. Children built cities based on given maps of Boston. They construct the city environment by different materials. Although, it seems really fun, I did not understand what teachers target to teach students? Is it for only creativity? Since children are not so grown up, concrete thinking was targeted I think. Still, what was the "content" is still blur for me. edit: Opps, duplicate :).
  •
Here's a previously-shared example of learning by design by "Kids Build!" project. I think just getting the hands of the kids dirty is an outcome by itself. Although they do not possess abstract thinking skills at such a young age, I still think these are the ages when an interest sparks in the child, which could then turn into a passion.

This is a website focuses on mainly contemporary styles of learning and teaching. One of its focus is on learning by design alongside some others. There is a lot of content: knowledge on LBD or its pedagogy. They also offer online courses, some suggestions for teachers who want to utilize LBD in their classes and ways to evaluate learners' knowledge.

Mystery Skype - San Agustín Valladolid - 1 views

  •
It is really impressive TPACK model example that can help students learning geography. By teacher's high CK, students learn similarity and differences between continents and countries. By teacher's high PK, students are seperated groups and they are leaded in order to develop good questions. Also, by teacher's high TK, students are connected to real students in different countries in real time via using techology, so all of the students work collaboratively.
  •
Büşra, I really love it <3 And also ıt is so funny practice to use TPACK model.
  •
I really liked it. It is fun for students but there is more than that I believe. Because in the process they are comparing other students' clues with what they know, reviewing high amount of their information. For example students at the other side of the skype call knew their friends were not in finland, estonia, latvia, belarus, ukraine, etc (neighbors of russia). But still I think they -maybe implicitly- learnt these countries are russia's neighbors. Still, I would love to examine their geography scores to be sure about this method's efficiency.
