This is an Innovative Mapping Tool released by the EPA to Improve Environmental Reviews and Planning. The web-based application draws environmental data dynamically from EPA's Geographic Information System (GIS) databases and web services and provides immediate screening of environmental assessment indicators for a user-defined area of interest.

Database with extensive links to government agencies with data sets on the themes of agriculture, environment, chemistry, climate, biodiversity, economy, society, geography, history for the UK and specifically Scotland. Data is in a variety of formats.

This WMS is the national database of Australia. It will allow you to view and make maps with a diversity of layers. It features two WMS bundles of themes; with WMS URLs: "http://www.ga.gov.au/wms/getmap?dataset=national&request=capabilities" is for National Geoscience Datasets, and "http://mapconnect.ga.gov.au/wmsconnector/com.esri.wms.Esrimap?Version=1.1.1&Request=getcapabilities&Service=WMS&Servicename=GDA94_MapConnect_SDE_250kmap_WMS&" is for National Topographic Datasets (Jim P., July 2009).

Geocommunity has free, downloadable data in the areas of administrative, political boundaries, DEMs, geologic, hydrography, land use/land cover, place name gazetteer, transportation, and utilities. This data can be found at the national level and state level. Use the LCENVS account. All data is downloaded in the E00 format.

Several data downloads from OzCoasts for different areas of Australia's coastal waterways. OzCoasts "provides comprehensive information about Australia's coast, including its estuaries, coastal waterways and climate change impact."

National Geophysical Data Center WMS (and other format) themes, generally with global extent (some restricted to U.S.). WMS URL is easy to obtain by clicking "wms" button next to each theme. (Jim P., July 2009)
