On July 5, 2016, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board dismissed IPR2016-00836, well prior to institution, due to a settlement between Verify Smart Corporation and Unified. A definitive review and close reading of medical peer-review journals, and government health statistics shows that American medicine frequently causes more harm than good. The number of people having in-hospital, adverse drug reactions (ADR) to prescribed medicine is 2.2 million. (1) Dr. Richard Besser, of the CDC , in 1995, said the number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections was 20 million. Dr. Besser, in 2003, now refers to tens of millions of unnecessary antibiotics. (2, 2a) The number of unnecessary medical and surgical procedures performed annually is 7.5 million. (3) The number of people exposed to unnecessary hospitalization annually is 8.9 million. (4) The total number of iatrogenic [induced inadvertently by a physician or surgeon or by medical treatment or diagnostic procedures] deaths is 783,936. The 2001 heart disease annual death rate is 699,697; the annual cancer death rate is 553,251. (5) It is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States.

With Wall Street speculators driving up oil and gas prices to near record highs, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today urged President Obama to ask for the immediate resignation of federal regulators who won't enforce a new law to stop excessive speculation in oil markets. Gasoline pump prices in Vermont averaged $3.90 a gallon today, a penny more than the national average. At the same time, big oil companies posted record profits. ExxonMobil's $10.7 billion first-quarter profit was 69 percent greater than one year ago.

In all the talk about the federal deficit, why is the single largest culprit left out of the conversation? Why is the one part of government that best epitomizes everything conservatives say they hate about government-- waste, incompetence, and corruption-all but exempt from conservative criticism? Of course, I'm talking about the Pentagon. Any serious battle plan to reduce the deficit must take on the Pentagon. In 2011 military spending accounted for more than 58 percent of all federal discretionary spending and even more if the interest on the federal debt that is related to military spending were added. In the last ten years we have spent more than $7.6 trillion on military and homeland security according to the National Priorities Project.

On June 22, 2016, pursuant to a settlement agreement, Unified Patents Inc. filed a motion to terminate their petition for inter partes review, IPR2016-00836, against claims 1-3, 5-7, 9-16 and 19 of U.S. Patent 8,285,648 (owned and recently asserted by Verify Smart Corp.). On September 7, 2016, Unified Patents Inc. filed a petition for inter partes review against all claims of a patent owned and asserted by Digital Stream IP, LLC in the Eastern District of Texas. The challenged patent, 6,757,913, discusses the wireless transmission of digital data. A copy of the proceeding can be found below.

On July 11, 2016, Unified petition for inter partes review in IPR2016-01404 on claims 1, 2, 13-15, 33, 34, 39, 46 and 48 of patent 6,968,459, assigned to Intellectual Ventures II, LLC. The patent discusses restricting access to data storage devices, i.e., limiting data storage to read/write or read-only access privileges.

On July 25, 2016, Unified Patents Inc. filed a petition for inter partes review of all claims 1-15 of U.S. Patent 6,415,207. In IPR2016-01465, Unified challenged a patent directed to automated tracking, one that Shipping and Transit has asserted against more than 90 small businesses. On May 27, 2016, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) of claims 1, 4, 6, 7, 10-13, and 16 of U.S. Patent 8,706,627, owned and asserted by Sentegra, LLC in various district courts. The technology is directed to electronic ticketing on a mobile device.

On July 22, 2016, Unified filed for inter partes review of all claims 1-16 of U.S. Patent 7,454,002, owned and asserted by Sportbrain Holdings, Inc. The subject matter relates to the devices providing data via the Internet, commonly known as the Internet of things. A copy of the petition is found below.

On July 10, 2016, Unified Patents Inc. filed a petition for inter partes review, IPR2016-01374, against claims 1, 2, 3, 8, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, and 28 of U.S. Patent 6,339,428, directed to a video graphics texture mapping.

Unified Patents Inc. (Unified) has challenged patents asserted by this year's three most prolific patent litigants: Shipping and Transit LLC, Sportbrain Holdings LLC, and Uniloc USA, Inc. These challenges are part of Unified's ongoing efforts to protect technology areas ("zones") from non-practicing entities (NPEs), more commonly referred to as "patent trolls."
