Designing a 1st Grade Unit with Making in Mind | Margaret A. Powers - 0 views

  •
"Now that we have the I.D.E.A. Studio  (Imagination Destination at Episcopal Academy), a new space at my school for interdisciplinary work, I have been excited to collaborate with teachers to imagine new student projects. Our first grade social studies work is centered around an exploration of places, starting with students' bedrooms and expanding out all the way to the Earth. This exploration begins by reading students the book Me on the Map. From there, students begin following a similar examination of places and maps that the girl in the book explores. Over the past few years, I have developed a variety of projects that integrate technology into this work in meaningful ways, such as the intersections between mapping, coding, and the distance between home and school. This year, I wanted to see if we could bring more hands-on making into the curriculum. I began to design a new unit (check out this Google Doc to see it) that would bring together students' expertise and knowledge of current spaces they frequent (e.g., their bedrooms, the classroom, or the lunchroom) and allow them to consider the design elements involved in creating one of those spaces together as a class. This type of project would integrate ISTE standards, Next Generation Science Standards, reading and writing standards, and connect directly to students' expanding exploration of places from Me on the Map."

Convert Blu-ray Title for iPad Mini - 1 views

  •
Apple has eventually gone where many of the consumers, techies, and media's have long rumored about. Or, maybe from the day when the original iPad came out, this topic had been argued like thousands of times inside the company, among the decision makers. iPad Mini, just 1.8 inch smaller, brings Apple a fresher tablet experience. As speculated, the new tablet comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64 GB of onboard storage for both the basic Wi-Fi version and the Wi-Fi + Cellular model. But, there is an obvious downscale on its display, which is just on par with the first-gen iPad. Without Retina Display, is this smaller iPad can display crystal clear images? Now let's just convert your high definition Blu-ray movie to MP4 video to play on it. You'll see immediately if it's worth the money in your pocket. DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper, the best Blu-ray Ripper software available on the market, now can help you rip any Blu-ray to iPad Mini compatible MP4 video. How to Convert Video for iPad Mini? - 0 views

  •
The iPad Mini was released not very long ago, with starting price at £269 for the 16GB WiFi model. It features a 7.9-inch display, just less than 2 inch smaller compared to the normal iPad size, but 0.9 inch bigger than the likes of Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire HD, the pioneers in 7 inch tablet category. Inside, the Mini iPad carries an A5 chip, which is the same as in the iPad 2. It also has a front facing Facetime HD camera and a solid 5-megapixel rear one that is capable if shooting 1080p video. In hardware terms, the easy-to-notice downgrade on this Mini iPad is its screen. It has a 1024 x 768-pixel iPad 2 equivalent display. If you already get one beside you, just take a video onto it to see how it looks when playing movies. You need a video converter software like DVDFab Video Converter to do the conversion, so that iPad Mini can play the converted MP4 video smoothly. Here is a three-step tip for that:

HTC usage share drops 60% in five months, study finds - 1 views

  •
"Not long ago, HTC posted six consecutive months of record revenue thanks to strong demand for its Android-powered smartphones. The company's record run came to a screeching halt in October last year with the release of Apple's iPhone 4S. HTC's fourth quarter earnings fell, missing Wall Street's expectations, and the rough patch continued in the first quarter of 2012. To compound matters, the latest study conducted by ad network Chitika shows that the troubled handset maker's usage share has declined by more than 60% in the past five months from 18.22% to 7.28% based on traffic across its network. At the same time, Apple's share has increased by 64% from 46.84% to 76.88% and other Android vendors such as Samsung and Huawei have recorded continued modest growth. HTC is betting big on its flagship One X smartphone, and it hopes the handset, along with the rest of its One-series phones, will help the company rebound."

Super-thin HTC Ville Leaked | Mobile Phone Blog - 0 views

  •
"The recent spate of leaked HTC devices has been exciting, with quad-core monsters the Edge and Zeta on the phone side, and the Quattro on the tablet side, but if those weren't enough, the HTC Ville has now joined the party. Although the design doesn't look all that different from other efforts, the word is the Ville will be the slimmest HTC phone yet, measuring just 8mm thick!"

Samsung Ships Into Smartphone First Place | Mobile Phone Blog - 0 views

  •
"Like everything covering the world by the millions and constantly changing shape, mobile phones are evolving. And the smaller, smarter species have taken over from the clumsy giants of yesteryear. Once upon a time Motorola ruled over a world of giant bricks. Then, Nokia dominated a dumbphone world, a rich carpet of thousands of different charging cables foresting the floor near electrical outlets, blowing away the ancient voiceboxes with texts and LCD screens and lots of other things which we swear sounded modern back then. But in 2012 it's the time of the smartphone, and Samsung have finally wrestled the crown away from the Finnish giant."

Convert Blu-ray Movie to iPad 4 Compatible MP4 video - 0 views

  •
Apple's 4th generation tablet, iPad 4, or iPad with Retina Display, has been landed for a while. It's only after 7 months that Apple released this new generation of its tablet. Compared with iPad 3, or the New iPad, this upgrade seems a little bit confusing, is it necessary? The only different seems to be the enhanced A6X chip with quad-core graphics, which, as Apple claims, is twice fast as the previous generation. Wow, quad-core graphics, does this mean it will make the HD movie playing even better? Try it before any hasty conclusion is drawn. Now, it's time to do the test. Just convert your Blu-ray movie to play on iPad 4. You can use DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper, the best Blu-ray Ripper software available on the market, to do the conversion. Follow this tip below: http://www.dvdfab.com/blu-ray-ripper/Convert-Blu-ray-Title-for-iPad-4.htm?ad=hcj

Nokia CEO calls multi-core processors a waste of battery life - 0 views

  •
"Nokia CEO Stephen Elop reportedly stated that multi-core mobile processors are a waste of battery life in a recent interview with a Chinese newspaper. Yangcheng Evening News quotes Elop as having said, "the so-called dual-core, quad-core mobile phones can only waste batteries, but not be useful for consumers all the time." Microsoft's Windows Phone mobile operating system does not support multi-core chipsets, but the company has been highlighting the "real world performance" of its handsets through the "Smoked by Windows Phone" challenge. Elop went on to claim that the company's flagship Lumia 900 has never been defeated by the iPhone or an Android smartphone, despite the dual-core and quad-core processors found in those devices. "
