Clooney, who wrote and directed the film, stars as presidential hopeful Mike Morris - a Democrat whose bid for the White House appears all but assured. But things take a disastrous turn when an ambitious young aide (Gossling) becomes embroiled in a scandal that threatens to rock the campaign and destroy everything his candidate has worked for.
The timing's finally right for Clooney who told USA Today he shelved the project in 2008 after President Obama's election, believing the nation was too uplifted and optimistic "for a cynical political movie."
