Interesting post on Slate. Colin sent it. Thought I'd share. It's true that rushing to judgment and making errors are as old as journalism (and humanity) itself.

Twitter transforming campaign reporting: For the better or worse? - 0 views

Very interesting story about a new report from the folks at the Nieman Foundation at Harvard (major, huge, prestigious journalism think tank) and what Twitter is doing to campaign coverage. Things have changed A LOT since I was covering George W. Bush on the presidential campaign trail in 2000. See what you think....

Texas Tribune Festival - 0 views

  •
Your classmate, Colin, has asked about covering the Texas Tribune festival for the first major class assignment. The student fee is $50, but if you are covering the festival for student media, you can apply for a press pass and not pay a fee. Here is a proposal: If you all decided you wanted to do this for the first Major Assignment, I would push back the deadline and assign each of you a specific angle on the festival. You would benefit in your Storify from having the whole class at one event (I'm sure there will be tons of Twitter/social media traffic anyway from this thing) and we could pitch this to Hilltop Views as comprehensive coverage. The whole class doesn't need to sign on though. If one or two of you is interested, let me know and I will send you the link for applying for a press pass and give you each a specific angle/assignment to do so. Again, you would offer this coverage to Hilltop Views for Life&Arts. (One of the Online Editors-in-Chief is in your class, Hannah Thornby). Check out the link and then we can talk about this tomorrow in class. See you then.

The New York Times Reddit Smear Article - 4 views

One of your classmates said there was problem with the link, so I am re-sending. Also, someone else asked for details of the blogging assignment. Remember, you are to research Reddit. Get on the site, look around and then find out, from it and other sources, what, if any, remedies the participants in the Tripathi timeline offered to correct their errors. What did they do? Was it enough, in your opinion? Base your blog post on your research (hyperlinking, remember, is attribution in digital journalism)
