"Eclipse BIRT is free / open source reporting engine for Java. A commercial BIRT Report Server is available from Actuate (the company behind Eclipse BIRT). While Eclipse BIRT does not provide a free/open source reporting server, the BIRT Runtime provides a simple Eclipse BIRT Web Viewer. Eclipse BIRT Web Viewer installation instructions for several Java EE application servers are here. Here I share my own experience installing Eclipse BIRT 2.6.1 Web Viewer under GlassFish 3.0.1 Java EE Application Server :"

We also offer complete tooling integration in SpringSource Tool Suite, plus our Spring Roo rapid application development framework. So I started with a maven web application in Eclipse to do my test drive of jersey. I added the repositories, and the jersey-server dependency (https://jersey.dev.java.net/source/browse/*checkout*/jersey/tags/jersey-1.0.2/jersey/dependencies.html) I started out with a filter, instead of the servlet. I always prefer filters. I also added the following initialization parameters:

Akka is the platform for the next generation event-driven, scalable and fault-tolerant architectures on the JVM We believe that writing correct concurrent, fault-tolerant and scalable applications is too hard. Most of the time it's because we are using the wrong tools and the wrong level of abstraction. Akka is here to change that. Using the Actor Model together with Software Transactional Memory we raise the abstraction level and provide a better platform to build correct concurrent and scalable applications. For fault-tolerance we adopt the "Let it crash" / "Embrace failure" model which have been used with great success in the telecom industry to build applications that self-heal, systems that never stop. Actors also provides the abstraction for transparent distribution and the basis for truly scalable and fault-tolerant applications. Akka is Open Source and available under the Apache 2 License.

" Openbravo ERP REST consists of a framework offering security and exception services and a data access REST web service implementation. The data access (DAL) REST web services provide a CRUD-like web service so that external applications can retrieve, update, create and delete business objects through standard HTTP requests. "

Caching is the most important performance optimization technique. There are many things that can be cached in persistence, objects, data, database connections, database statements, query results, meta-data, relationships, to name a few. Caching in object persistence normally refers to the caching of objects or their data. Caching also influences object identity, that is that if you read an object, then read the same object again you should get the identical object back (same reference). JPA 1.0 does not define a shared object cache, JPA providers can support a shared object cache or not, however most do. Caching in JPA is required with-in a transaction or within an extended persistence context to preserve object identity, but JPA does not require that caching be supported across transactions or persistence contexts. JPA 2.0 defines the concept of a shared cache. The @Cacheable annotation or cacheable XML attribute can be used to enable or disable caching on a class.

The Java Content Repository (JCR) standard, which is based on the Java Specification Requests JSR170 (version 1.0) and JSR 283 (version 2.0), provides a Java-centric object-oriented storage API specifically targeted at content management scenarios. The JCR is not a content management system or a full-fledged content management system API, but rather a content repository API. A content repository provides a common API for all content-driven applications and CMS components, which require access to the content. It provides methods to read, write, and query content. The primary motivation of the JCR standard is to provide a standard and vendor-neutral programmatic interface for content repositories, allowing applications of multiple vendors to interact efficiently.

"MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your console (with ncurses). It can also monitor wildcards: if another file matching the wildcard has a more recent modification date, it will automatically switch to that file. That way you can, for example, monitor a complete directory of files. Merging of 2 or even more logfiles is possible. It can also use colors while displaying the logfiles (through regular expressions), for faster recognition of what is important and what not. It can also filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software. When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the functionality of tools like 'watch' and such."

"Let's imagine we want to create an application for orders. People can sign in to the system, place orders for various items, check out and have them sent to their address. Very simple, but we can show a lot of things here. As we expect to be writing more than one application of this type and as we also would like to be able to express the structure of the application on a business level (one of the major drivers for DSLs and MDSD for that matter), we come up with the idea of using a DSL to describe what the application does. Defining the DSL is what we did last week. This week, we need to map the concepts of the DSL to some code and some APIs we're going to program against.
